Best Free GUIs to run Stockfish 13 on Windows PC?

I think the Tarrasch GUI is pretty good, it is free and I think it is much better than Arena

Lucas Chess has an interesting feature, you can use it to get an accuracy score for a game, but it takes a while

Another vote for Tarrasch

Arena has automatic analysis.  It will tell you how many times you did identical moves with engines first choice in a game.   happy.png

i still don't get why people need an engine for making openings sad.png

I have never heard anybody mention Jose Chess before, but I would consider it the best program. https://sourceforge.net/projects/jose-chess/

I never really used Jose much. However, people just need to be aware that it requires the installation of Java Runtime Environment.

Jose was last updated more than 8 years ago.

Is there a good GUI where it's easy to turn off the 50 move rule, e.g. to opt for current FIDE basic rules?

Also is there a good GUI that will list available engine options (as sent by the engine in the option command)? I'm assuming this is where you'd turn off the 50 move rule in the engine.

I've got Tarrasch. Can you tell it to play engines against each other? (I do that in Arena, but I find Tarrasch generally easier to use.)

…pain in the a** ??? - The PGN import is very easy. I do it almost every day. No problem at all.
ChessElk
Create new database (file) and import PGN into the new database. Not open a PGN. 😉

… you are able to add new games or edit existing games.
ChessElk
Ok, I import all PGN in only ONE database file. This is the best way for me to use the search function.

If you are not reading the documentation or watch the tutorials of Scid I would recommend to use another program. Scid is NOT a simple PGN viewer, it is a mighty database system. Perhaps Tarrashgui is the better choice for you. I love SCID. 😎 Bye!

For free: I vote for arena, too.

But you could buy an old Fritz version second hand for a few bucks on ebay. IMHO the best option.
