House of Staunton now makes a plastic Zagreb set.... I had to buy them immediately! I'll post again when they arrive...

Got excited when I read this but the bases on them look so small AND undercut. The pawns look like Weebles that Wobble.

In person, I am very pleased with my purchase. The HOS plastic Zagreb look really great. The pawn is about a 1/16" of inch shorter than the Marshall series pieces I also purchased, but it doesn't bother me at all. The pieces have a glossy sheen that I really like. The white pieces are an excellent sandy beige color that looks really natural. I love the Leningrad style knights. The taper of the shafts have a nice curve to them. The top of the rook looks solid. I like the way the ramparts are prominent and have good spacing. The pieces are weighted but not dramatically so. I wish they were a touch heavier. I love the opposite colored tops of the King, Queen, and Bishop. The cross on top of the King looks elegant but not too fragile. I think these pieces will look great on a wood board too. 9.5/10 from me!

Here's another plastic set I have. This one's also from HouseOfStaunton:
Triple Weighted Colored Regulation Plastic Chess Pieces - 3.75" King
I've purchased the white, black, green, "natural", and "red" pieces. Natural look more like baby sh#$ mustard. Red are a light red with a pinkish tint. I hate those two. The black, green, and white all look great. The pieces are triple weighted and feel substantial. The bishops look a little clunky and the top of the queen is mostly flat. The tops of the rooks are too shallow for my taste. Also, the cross on the King is too big and looks weird. I think all of these design choices were made to make the pieces less likely to break when dropped.

The board is a Wild Style Granite #2. I forget where I bought it from. The edges are curling up because it's vinyl and been rolled up in my chess bag for a month. A half hour laying in the Florida sun will restore these to flatness.

Marshall - 3.75" King - Red & White
Granite - Full Color Thin Mousepad Chess Board

These are also from HouseOfStaunton. The pieces are quite heavy. The shapes are all great. The queen has a nice rounded top. The King has an elegant cross, thought it might be fragile. The knights have great contours to the body. The rook is very imposing, stout... The color of the red pieces is a kind of dark brick shade. The pic below is a little more saturated red than in person. Aside from the delicate cross on the King, my only issue is the color of the white pieces. They seem unnaturally light.

Here is another picture on a different mousepad board:

In Europe, it's more difficult to find good board/plastic pieces combos, but I really like the DGT pieces on this thin mousepad board (inspired in Bundesliga chessboards):

That does look great. Nice color on the light pieces. Board looks good. I like the way the edge is the same as the light squares.
