I realized that my chess sets tend to be either Central or Eastern European, and I don’t really have a good example of a great Staunton set. What does everyone recommend for a good current production set? For reference, here is what I have:
1. Noj 1962 Soviet Championship/Tal set
2. Oldset Soviet Latvian/Mordovian set
3. Oldset Soviet Grandmaster Supreme set
4. Biro Sandor Romanian-Hungarian set
5. Mora Spanish Jura set
and a few others enroute, or still in production. What should my Staunton set be? Perhaps a Fischer-Spassky? Any recommendations as to who would be the best maker?
I personnaly like the HoS Classic Sets. My 3" King set is Boxwood and Rosewood, and my 3.75" King set is Boxwood and Ebonized Boxwood. For me, these represent a great classic Staunton production set.
