Black Set with Black Pieces

Hello,

I am about to purchase a black and white chess board with black and white pieces and black and white board. Will it be unplayable or difficult to adjust to?

BrownishGerbil

Where I live chess pieces were typically black and white (or rather boxwood) and chess boards were typically not black and white and I would think for a good reason. Brown fields (like mahogany) or green like in some countries go better together

Same, same or contrasting - I prefer some form of contrast but both can work.

As @Powderdigit alludes, in order to enhance the visualization/discrimination of the arrangement of the pieces on the board it would be helpful to have some contrast between the color of the pieces versus the color of the squares. For example black or very dark squares tend to have the effect of camouflaging the arrangement of the black pieces. The photo of the set posted by @BrownishGerbil above is a good example of enhanced contrast between pieces and board.

For example the following set....ebonised black pieces on a solid wood board with maple and cherry squares and mahogany border.....nice contrast....

I purchased the board from ColoradoWoodWorker (Brad Borkowski) on Etsy...
