<p>Hi all, Im looking for suggestions for a book or dvd to improve my game. Im looking to improve my whole game including openings, tactics and end game. Im not too sure of my rating but i done an online test and it scored me at 1315. I have read on other treads lots of mixed advise towards different books so Im hoping this thread might point me in the right direction. Thanks Paul

I guess its personal preference, so you'll get many different books suggested.

For what its worth, at your level, my personal favourite is Logical Chess by Irving Chernov. Its simple to understand and follow, with really clear explanations. It goes through complete games, explaining each move in a very straightforward way.

I think it would help get you from a beginner to 1500 ish.

The other thing I really like is the computer analysis of games feature on here. Really helpful in pointing out where you went wrong and what would have been a better move. You need pay membership for that though.

"Logical Chess Move by Move" by Chernev already recommended by kasparella

"Pandolfini's Endgame Course" by IM Bruce Pandolfini

"The Most Instructive Games of Chess Ever Played" by Chernev

As a non-paying member of chess.com you get 1 computer analysis of your games a week (every 7 days from your last analysis). That should help you see where some of your good and bad moves are.
