There is a new chess book out---"Play Like A Girl" by Shahade. Holy Cow! I'm glad little Bobby isnt around to see this. The chess world is going to hell in a handbasket. How about this for a title---How to play chess and have your ass handed to you on a silver platter!

Or this---Play like a sissy and get slapped around the chess board. Maybe this---play chess like a sassy, seventy year old grandma and clean somebody's clock.

I'll bet the girls who are really strong---play like boys and read books like "Chess for Tigers", Fighting Chess, or Art of attack in Chess.

So I take it you judge books by their titles? Or are you not so easily impressed by puns in general?

The reason I ask is because I'm sure you understood what Jen S. was trying to say with the title and did a little bit of homework as to why she called it that.

Eggie366

You clearly miss the point. Her title and the book itself is challenging the stereotype of what it means to "play like a girl". The games she features show that strong women players tend to be aggressive and fearless with their attacks, and the book features games demonstrating this.

What makes you think its a pun? And you're correct---I will never buy a chess book with a title like play chess like a girl!

I suppose you are going to rush out and by 20 copies to pass out to all your macho buddies.

orust

"Play like a Girl" is at least using some humour given the playing style of many top female players, is "Chess for Tigers" better in your view? Sounds childish to me.

I dont think its a stereotype---girls in general play lousy chess. Even in the higher classes they play lousy chess. Why are there separate titles. Why are there tournaments restricted to women only? Because if they let the men enter they would win all the money prizes and the women would go home hungry and broke. Its the same in other sports like golf---women play on a much shorter course. Look at Annika Sorrenstam. When she was playing it wasnt a question of whether she would win but rather how many strokes she would win by. She was so great her advisors convinced her to play in a mans tournament---well to make a long story short, she never did that again!

I dont think God made woman to play sports---he made woman to get in the kitchen and rattle those pots and pans and feed that hungry man! Amen

I think it's a market strategy like How to (...) for dummies. :D

That's what sometimes good books, that looks like not good books, interesting to buy xD .... and read ;)

OP you sound insecure. Maybe less time on the internet?

Maybe he just wanted to carry around a book where other chessplayers see and think...

"Wow. He must be smart for reading this kind of book!" Because of the title :D

I agree.

I noticed that there are more legendary men than women.

For they shall stay at home doing laundry and cooking dinner!

Hey bonir, You sound like the kind of guy that would like his wife to take him out on the basketball court and kick his ass. What a monument to manhood you are! Do you like doing laundry?

ivandh, that the most intelligent thing I've ever heard you say which means your brain is the size of a walnut. I'm curious pal. do you have a life --- you seem to live on this site. Get a life, you are not that interesting. By the way, if you have anymore clever quips---dont call us, we'll call you.

Jennifer Shahade and Greg Shahade sound alot alike when they talk, ie GIRLY.  Unfortunate for Greg!

Isnt it enough to know you dont want to play chess like a girl. Who cares why they are lousy. A masculine guy does not want to play chess like a girl, or play basketball like a girl, or run like a girl, or bowl like a girl, or fight like a girl etc., etc.

Moon_Knight

You guys are so sexist. I mean the title is funny, my guess it's a girl power kind of thing. The book isn't intended for guys apparently. :P It's funny that most of you never came to that conclusion.
