Bought this vinyl board and it......

This board kicks butt.  Lays flat, very flat, can also clean up easily. Pieces slide across squares, and the board is non glare, matte finish.  Cloth backed and a high class vinyl that doesn't even feel and look like vinyl.  Now I wish they made this in a 2 3/8" or 2 1/2" board although I will make good use of my 2 1/4" board.  My quest for the best board is over. Unfortunately I found this board last and have accumulated many of the other boards. Cool

I have nothing to do with the Chess House, this is not an endorsement. This was however the only place I have seen that carries this board.  Here is the link to the board. Packed well too and sent out lighnenting fast.

I would rename it the "Perfect Board".

I was looking at this board but unfortunately they don't have any pictures of it with pieces on it. Would you care to give an update on this board? how has it held up? Do you still like it? How does it look with Ivory and natual pieces? Have you used it in tournament play?

ROBB_CHESS

Hey, how about that ! Normally, as you know, I'm not normally a big fan of roll ups, but that one has that wood color look... nice job :)

Glad to hear it -- I ordered this one and the brushed aluminum (or similar name). The pictures look good but I haven't seen them first hand yet. I have order others of their "premium" vinyl boards and have been pleased.

Wish there were more choices without the numbers and letters (rank and file markings) though.

Looks like a very fine board. If it lies flat, call it a winner.

Most boards have too-bright light squares, meaning that they tire the eyes as the hours roll by.

This one is subdued and wouldn't be a problem at all.

I have a 20 year old board much like it, alas for a long time no longer made.

It's a good one! Same optics, pebbly-grain, almost un-vinyl-like, and it comes out of its tube after a year and lies flat. Like you, I see it only lacking in that it doesn't have a brother in 2.5".

The board I actually carry around for everyday use is made of silicone.  My suggestion to anyone is that if they get the chance to buy a silicone board, snatch it up.  They're kind of hard to find, but they are amazing.  They lie absolutely flat.  You don't even need to roll them up; you can fold them up, roll them, or even just crumple them into a ball like you would with a piece of paper before you throw it away.  It will straighten back up perfectly the second you release pressure.  Silicone boards are really the perfect boards in my condition.  The only drawback is that they get a lot of static electricity, so hairs and similar fibers will stick to them.

I'm intrigued by this board, they are out of green though.

DrNyet: what colors did you get? please let us know your impression when they arrive!

I think they have a few more drawbacks like pieces don't slide, they are sticky and you mentioned the worst one... the dirt and hairs that stick to it. Gross! I think for roll ups Vinyl is still king, the problem is finding one with excellent quality. I had a vinyl board I purchased around 17 years ago from uscf that was 10 times better than anything I've bought or seen since.

Oh please.  Throw it in the dishwasher and it's good as new.  Vinyl is cheap high maintenance crap compared to silicone.  And yes, I do have vinyl and mousepad boards as well as silicone.  To be fair, compared to a wooden folder, none of them are worth spit.

Aries360

considering i've never thrown any of my vinyl boards in the dish washer LOL, I don't see how they are "high maintenance". Also it should be annoying to have to throw that thing in the dish washer in the middle or in bewteen games. Nobody said vinyl was superior to a wooden board but not as easy to carry around though. Sorry I just think Silicone boards are the worst kind of rollup board, but thats just my opinion.

The brushed aluminum is still out of stock but I believe he is getting more in soon, at least that was the last update. He said it was the same quality as the gold. Obviously these are great boards as he can not keep them in stock.

My last post was a little snippy, sorry about that guys.  I probably shouldn't visit the forums after I've had a few beers. Embarassed I"ve just seen so many ratty looking vinyl boards that won't lie flat that it's kind of a pet peeve of mine. Obviously a well cared for vinyl board is fine and in fact, the printing is sharper than on either mousepad or silicone.  All I meant by high maintenance is that they do have to be carefully rolled and silicone doesn't. And yes that does look like a great board wiscmike.

I have also seen ratty vinyl boards at tournaments. Wavy curly garbage. I don't know how they can play on that.!? Its possible they do not roll em up or store them correctly.

A lot of people don't take care of them, but the quality of the board is a huge factor. It looks like the ones from chesshouse are the ones i've beenlooking for, I hope...

What do y'all think of the mouse pad roll up boards ?

I don't like that the pieces don't slide, so if your a slider like me it will take some getting used to. I bought only one mousepad board and it survived all of one trip to the chess club after my first opponent spilled part of his coffee on it. Even if something like this doesn't happen in time they will get dirty by regular use, I don't know how successfull people have been at cleaning them up or if it's even practical. But the ones I see at the club look rather filthy, I doubt they even bother and just buy new ones every once in a while.

I bought a silicone board from Wholesale Chess.  I like it a lot, but one drawback is that sliding your pieces on the board is pretty much impossible.

What color did you purchase - black or blue? Do you know if they have it in green (squares)?

TundraMike

Bought the gold board, have the aluminum brush on order, it has been out of stock for a while.

I was not clear sorry. There are two color options in the gold board - black and blue. Was wondering which option you selected.
