Building my own clock

I am about to begin a new project:  building my own chess clock.

You can follow the progress on my blog:

b0bnolan, I build chess boards from exotic woods from around the world. With most species each piece of wood has a unique grain or color, so any excess cannot be used for the next chess board. The end result is that I have a rather large pile of beautiful wood that I cannot use. Send me a pm with your size requirements when you are ready to make your wood case. I would be happy to send you anything you could use.

@b0bnolan  Great task and hobby. Did you know that the new owner of ACE is about to launch a new chess clock that addresses many issues he found with Chronos & DGT clocks?   I am guessing it will be a huge seller.

Here is a man who is a chess player and chess seller and over the last 10 years has been thinking of making about the perfect chess clock that you can and keep it competitive to the DGT 3000 and Chronos.  I wish I could buy stock in this clock for real. he will sell 5 thousand in the first year easy, IMHO.

This seems interesting. I will check out the links, and will likely be intrieged

Progress Update:  I now have a rudimentary clock running on the Arduino.  Details on my blog.  http://chess-for-engineers.blogspot.com/2015/03/clock-project-progress-update.html

For those following the "Build your own chess clock" project, I now have a basic working clock sending the time to 2 LCD displays.

Details on my blog.  http://chess-for-engineers.blogspot.com/2015/03/its-clock.html

Cool project! Did you see mine?

I'm also using an Atmel microprocessor. I used an LED display, but you could adapt it to LCD as well. All the code is available on github. I'll follow your progress.

That's pretty neat.

JamieDelarosa

yeah, thats pretty good.  Somewhere, in a box in the garage, I have an old BHB that hasn't been used since the early 80s.

Posted a short video of the clock on my blog

Seems like a waste of time

kleelof

SOunds like you have a lot of time on your hands. Laughing

@tmodel66   Perhaps I should have spent more time on the internet trolling people who actually accomplished something.

I spent my time learning about microcontrollers, programming in C, wiring and soldering electronics, creating a blog, and how to post videos on the internet.   And I have something cool to show off as a result.  I don't need you to approve of how I spend my time.

Post here when you accomplish something.

I really admire the person with patience to write code. Can you tell us about your experience so far?

Sounds like an engineer with no sense of humor.  Type "pun" into your supercomputer, and tell me the results.

BTW, I own a computer consulting firm where guys like you work for me.

a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or the fact that there are words that sound alike but have different meanings.

Here it is. now you can share with the class how your dumbasses comment fits with the definition.

tmodel66

OK, class.  OP is talking about building a clock, which is a worthy project.  When I said "seems like a waste of time", it was a joke.

Most people probably understood this already.  Glad I could clarify for the rest of you.

BTW, if you are the grammar police, "dumbasses comment" doesn't make sense unless you are trying to show you are one.

I  am working on the chess clock again.   Here is a picture of the lever mechanism for the mechanical buttons.
