Cat thinking on best first move

It is always tricky. I am a chess collector and usually don't let a good set on the table. No problem though with the heavy pieces, as she will not move them.

I have a Novag Adversary, protected by such an acrylic top. Even so I don't like our cats sitting on it.

This looks like cat- safe. We will in some weeks get a new cat, very young. We are planning to take a lot of fragile stuff away from the bookshelves and make sure the cats have access to these places. The can't go out, so we make sure that the apartment is a big playground for them.

My case is good for one adult cat. I am not sure about two. My family had two cats when I was growing up. They constantly played cat and mouse. They always knocked over stuff and climbed all over the book shelves. It was very interesting to watch. That type of situation would not be appropriate for chess equipment of any kind. My family and I enjoyed our two cats. I am sure you will too. Good luck!
Thanks buddy!

what kind of cat is it bro?- its beautiful
Abyssian. They have a wonderful character! I love the Somalis too, close related to Abys but with long hair. They are very attached to humans, similar to dogs. They want to be with us, to interact.

The other set is just a cheap one, for analysis and “cat proof”. The set above is also plastic but a modern design. I liked it.

This one is bone, and the board is glass. I bought the board not so long ago for little money. I was surprised to see that they fit well together.

The Novag Adversary looks great! The acrylic cover looks very strong. Here is my case. The walls are pretty thick and can hold up my cat without flexing.
As a cat owner with nice chess sets, that looks like a worthy investment. Thanks!

This is a Novag Adversary, a chess robot from the 1980s. People estimate that they are only something like 100 pieces worldwide in works condition. And this works.

I, too, wanted one of those Novag robots. I settled for an aftermarket Excalibur Phantom.
You could already imagine how the cat reacted to seeing small plastic pieces glide across the board.

Haha! I can imagine. That's just asking for trouble.
I have also a Squareoff. The cats think this is a kind of toy.

Happy you. I played against one at Harrod's back in 1984, it was quite cool. Especially with "emotions" activated.
I bought the device, came home, make the NA play the Opera game. In the moment he would give checkmate he began to play crazy. He was broken! Several months later I brought him to a guy who fixed old radios and similar things and he could fix it without problem.
