Chess Bazaar's New Soviet Set--A Pictorial Review

I succumbed to the urge to buy a set from Chess Bazaar and pulled the trigger on their  "Popular Staunton Series Chess Pieces in Rose & Box Wood."  I haven't purchased from them before, opting instead to send my money to Alabama (HoS). I like the look of the set and the weight - I hope the quality is sufficient. It arrives this week and I'll post my impressions.

I can't believe how much people pay for chess sets and they can't get a nice wooden box, crazy eh

I actually think all the pieces should have proper secure padded resting places in a nice wooden box or it ain't really a finished set. What is wrong with people !!!

less than what is wrong with you, apparently : )

I would suggest  you and other people happy with not receiving a decent box should Raise your Standards in Life.

Those plastic boxes they used to supply were not that great anyway. The couple I received broke on the latch or hinge, I can't remember, but they went into the recycle bin.

I found an old microscope slide holding box yesterday for $10, it should store my brass set beautifully with quite minimal adjustment, and some method of moulded velvet lined padding. I have seen people carve into polystyrene and then cover them in something soft and then velvet which might work, i could just heat up the brass actually and melt them in on some baking paper.

Am looking forwards to Mike's review of the CB Staunton set.
