Me: What do you think about this set?
Wife: People are going to think you're cuckoo. How many chess sets do you need?

That's the advantage of having a small family. I never ask myself those questions.
"When I eat, the whole family eats. When I get up the whole family gets up!"
Lou, how many boards can you store in there? Storing boards is a problem. Most of mine are stacked on end in a chest that rests on the floor behind my chess table. You can see it behind the leather chair in this shot. I'll take a picture of it this weekend.

I don't have that problem.
Cgrau,
Depending on the width of the boards, I can store a total of 10-12 boards in the rack, two to three each on the top three shelves, and five thinner boards in the lower case resting on the carpet. In addition, I can store 8-10 roll-up boards in cardboard tubes in and alongside the rack.
cgrau,
Speaking of boards, what board is that in the pic up above?
Up, that's what HOS once sold as a Contemporary I, I recall. I bought it perhaps ten years ago, as a second. It developed a few cracks, and marks on the finish, so I refinished it. As you perhaps can tell, it's one of my favs, as it really goes well with all the red pieces I like.

It's a great solution. Thanks for sharing, Lou!
I'm running out of room for storing all the chess sets and boards I've been collecting lately. I had all my chess boards ( some in cases) stacked together leaning up against the living room wall. But where could I find a space to keep them that was safe, and yet out of the way?
Here was my solution. A chess board rack made out of 1" x 4" cedar attached to the wall behind the door of my second bedroom, which has now become a lab/shop.
It's a simple design that cost me about $20. Bungee cords keep the boards secure, and the trim on the front of the shelves prevents the boards from slipping out.
