Chess Clocks. Which one to get?

Actually I like the analog clocks but it seems that digital is the thing now.

Though I will still use analog clocks in bughouse. The analog makes it less easy to see who will time out first.

Though I haven't gone to a USCF event in quite a while I would like to go again. There just are not many around except scholastics.

I am leaning to the Excalibur clock.

I don't play blitz so analog is just fine for me.  Just set the time to 4pm and follow the time controls.

GET A CHRONOS CLOCK

Fugazy_Crapov

You can get a DGT North American for under $50 if you shop around.

Chronos Chess Clocks are best ever in my opinion, but are recently hard to find. I especially like the discontinued Chronos FX Touch, this is by far the best and most usable clock for any casual player. Full report on the state of Chronos Chess Clocks can be found here:

Nevertheless, most bang for the buck comes with the European Garde Digital Chess Clock. All the modes, simple operation, nice rack:

It's a pain to get a digital chess clock in the UK. I had wanted one of those DGT American clocks but the postage from the US, in addition to the clock itself is too much. So I have had to settle for one of these:

I couldn't find a user review for it anywhere so I've just had to go with it.

DGT chess clocks are available straight from the company here: http://www.dgtshop.nl

You're welcome. :-)

As soon as they make a digital clock with a ticking sound effect i might get one :)

I'm surprised.  I'm betting that most chess players prefer not to hear the ticks as it can be distracting and even cause pressure as one hears the seconds fly by.  Personally, I used to love the ticks of clocks, but then I started playing the piano.  Using a metronome for long periods of time have made me dislike them.  I always start thinking of 60 or 120 BPM, and want to start counting and moving with them.  I couldn't imagine trying to play chess with that.

What are the red things for on the clock?  Some way to set it?  I wonder how bonus time works on those, or does it?

Chess clock app for the smart phone is quite functional. But don't slap my phone, please just tap it.

didiz1016

just get a chronos which is $100 dollars, its the best chess clock

ElvisFord

Serious or not, the chess clock is a nice app to have, and is also FREE. Simple, Bronstein, and Fischer delays can be programmed.

As I've been playing violin for seven years, I concur with the pianist.

fianchetto123

I am also a pianist...lets not get into how annoying metronomes are

ClavierCavalier

It's not about metronomes being annoying, it's about ticks of a clock.

Oh my, are chess clocks slow ticking or are they those really fast ones, like on the intro to 60 Minutes?  Is 60 Minutes still around?
