Chess gifts for 7 year olds?

I’ve recently got into chess. I’ve been playing games, practicing, studying, etc. Soon my sister (7 years) has started to get interested in it as well; getting excited when I play games and wanting to watch chess tournaments. I’ve started to teach her the rules and she seems to understand it very well, and is really excited for when she’ll be able to understand it all. So now Christmas is coming up, and I’m trying to think of Christmas gifts for her, then I thought of a chess gift, like a book, a board, etc. any ideas?

Get her a tournament set up with bag clock score pad. And roll up board.
Leave out the clock if money is?
Bruce Pandolfini has some excellent beginner books. The plastic WCC set would make a great gift too.

For what it is worth, I think it is a very nice gesture and I admire you from the bottom of my 47 years for being so caring...

The reasoning is if she really likes it maybe she could play at school. I have an older brother who did the same for me during the Fischer Spassky era, Have always enjoyed casual play but seems youth chess programs have been growing. Some college have scholarships with chess programs.

Beside a chess set there is this boardgame called "Solitaire Chess" by Think fun. It is a one person game with 60 difficulty levels where you have to take on every move. My kids and I love it.

Check out chesshouse.com. I think they have the best quality plastic pieces and rollup boards for the money.  I have a young friend that is interested in chess and I got him a very nice set for very few dollars.  The plastic pieces are full size (3-3/4" kings), nicely weighted, and the castings are very good (it's hard to find the casting seams on the pieces). This is what I got him: https://www.chesshouse.com/products/heavy-club-and-tournament-chess-set-on-flex-pad?variant=30725694554199

It's a solid set, unbreakable, comes with extra queens, and is a terrific deal for $32.

If she can understand the vocabulary, I would recommend Bruce Pandolfini ultimate guide to chess, the way it's written makes it easy to read and it has some humour in it.

1)I thing a nice mousepad board with pieces would be nice if she doesn't already have it. 2)A chesskids account is cool too. They have lots of cool cartoo videos and I like it. 3) A work book I like this book and have purchased it multiple times for nieces and nephews who have shown interest in chess. Book

4) Kids really seem to enjoy puzzles. So maybe a puzzle book thats not too hard.

It will serve you both as long as the interest remains.

Very thoughtful and a wonderful chess-starter gift.

I'm a bit late here seeing as Christmas is tomorrow, but I'll still chime in. In my experience, 6-9 year old kids who have just begun learning chess and into it, like those medium-size, travel magnetic chess sets. 10-12 inch size board. The ones were the board folds in half, and the pieces are inside. They seem to love carrying the board around the house like a tray of food. Playing in the kitchen, living room, floor, table, hallway, etc. They like to bring the set to grandparents house. When a visitor comes over they like to greet the guests with the set in hand, asking for a game. Hah! Well,, that's my experience at least, with my own kids, nieces, nephews, and friends' kids. Happy holiday!
