@Desperatekingwalk Thanks very much for the response but those are not the same chess pieces. The knights in the Rapid and Blitz World Championship that just passed did not have any grooves for the mane. Take a look:
Chess pieces used in World Rapid and Blitz Championship?

Seriously? So I am losing all the details of the knights' manes, which are pretty clear scores on the pieces? And suddenly the knights have no eyes all because of video compression? I'm assuming that you are right and that you know what you are talking about - but I find that amazing that the knights appear clearly to have nothing on them whatsoever when, in fact, they do.

Amazing. And yet I can clearly see the grain in the dark squares of the chessboard the pieces are standing on, as well as details in both the 45 degree angle cut of the corner in the board and the words on the maker's name on the chessboard!

For what it's worth, I almost like these pieces with the video compression effect (ie. zero detail on the knights) - I really don't like them at all "in real life".

I think you could get them the way you want with an Indian chess company.
Also look at Chavet sets for another variation.

Thanks for following up. Much appreciated. I've learned something. I've also learned that I prefer those knights without any details!!!

Hi Countertheory-
You know, you could buy the Timeless set, and then buy the below knights from DGT "spare" parts page and replace the Timeless knights with the official FIDE knights which do not have eyes:
https://dgtshop.com/products/spare-parts/single-fide-official-weighted-e-piece-2
(Not sure if the above option for spares is only available over in Europe.)
Only thing is the base may not exactly match the Timeless ones?
Anyway, just a thought-

@Islandknightz Thanks for that suggestion. Very thoughtful. In theory, that's a very cool idea. The problem is that I can't stand the official WC set from which that knight comes. Apart from those over-the-top knights with all the flairy manes and reins etc., they are the ugliest knights I've ever seen. Personal preference, obviously, and I understand that many others will think they're incredible.
Hi.
Could anyone tell me what pieces they used in the recent World Rapid and Blitz Championship, whether they're weighted - and whether they are available to buy?
Also, what do the tournament organisers do with these sets once the tournament is over? Can you buy them?
Thanks.
