My first instinct is to buy somewhere else. My second instinct is to ask for a link to the set.
Chess pieces weight variation

Agree. Sounds fishy to me. A 10 to 15 gram variation within pieces of the same type sounds like sloppy workmanship in a $250 set. Especially when you can spend $100 LESS to avoid the problem elsewhere.
Good advise! Yes, I would look elseware also. For personal use there are a plethora of chess pieces out there. Even if one piece was slightly heavier than another it should not be noticeable. Here is an example: a boxwood & eboney set... the eboney pieces will be heavier for sure but, should not be noticeable unless you uase a scale.
its nice for pieces to have some weight to them so they dont constantly fall over when u touch them....but who cares if there is a 10 gram difference?
I got a decent set for like 55 dollars etc uscf sales
A friend of mine took the bottom off his pieces and put sand in them reglued the bottoms on and it worked fine
Hi guys,
I am new to chess.com I am in the midst of ordering a chess set for about $250. The manufacturer asked weather I want all the pieces to weight exactly as in all pawns equal and all rooks equal and so on.
I was wondering should I get all the pieces equally and proportionally weighted? It will cost another $100 to do so. As of now he says that the total weight of the chess set will be same. Just individually checking all pieces will cost extra.
I need the chess set for personal use and not for tournament purposes. Does slight chess piece weight variation matter? Like 10 - 15 grams here and there?
Please let me know your opinion.
