Chess Set Pictures

I said I would post and now I am starting again.

Here are pictures of my House of Staunton Drueke set in Golden Rosewood and boxwood. The pictures look like they are plastic, but I assure you this is a true wood reproduction of the plastic Drueke Players set.

This set is the one I have been consistently taking to my weekly Chess club. I do like this set quite a bit, while it is not my favorite.

I plan on using and posting a different set each week. Cheers.

Nice set! If this is not your favorite, what is? Why do you prefer using this set over the others lately?

My favorite is my Noj Dubrovnik Minceta.

I have used this one so much because because it plays a lot like the plastic version. The pieces aren’t too big and I now understand why the plastic original was so popular.

I have a few sets that I have used quite a bit. I think I also have different favorites for different playing conditions. I will discuss them when I post pictures of them.

Very nice set,as are pretty much all of the ones you've shown the forum.....Btw,nice to have you back & I hope you're feeling well.

That is a great set. The grain looks intense.

Here is this week’s set, Chavet reproduction in Rosewood and Boxwood by Empire Chess.

I do like this set I bring it out and use it occasionally

Lovely @Eyechess. 👍I am a Chavet fan!

A comment on my chavets.

For this week’s entry I have one of my favorites. Yes, it’s Noj. This is the Noj GM Pavasovic set in European Walnut and Maple.

Nice! Which plays/handles better the GM or the Dub sets?

They are different. I have used the Dub sets more by quite a bit. I do like this GM P set though. After playing with it last night, it feels more like a slower time control set.

The plastic Drueke has its name on the top of the rook. There were many sets made after the same model but without the name. I have one original and it is one of my favorites, but I do not take expensive sets to tournaments. I have one very rare, used in the Rio de Janeiro 1979 Interzonal tournament. Heavy, big, and an awful knight, but it is historical.

Here is this week’s set. It is my favorite one and probably the best one.

This is the House of Staunton Craftsman Series set in Blood Rosewood and Boxwood. This is a Frank Camaratta designed set.

The board is from Colorado Woodworker. It is Rosewood and Maple with a Cherry border. This board is magnetic and comes in four pieces.

magictwanger

Beautiful set...Gorgeous board! I'm a sucker for nice wood grain and that board has it in spades.

Oozes class and functionality. Sometimes a difficult balance. One of the many features that I like is the solidity of the bishop - where the mitre does not cut through the finial ball. I know many sets have the finial shaved but they always seem a tad fragile to me whereas this appears solid. Great stuff.

Eyechess

Thanks gents. I do like my Noj sets but this one is exceptional. The balance and handling of the pieces is really nice. Yes, this set is a winner.

I always like the design. And hopefully the HOS set is still under warranty.

Wow...jealous much. Oh wait...yeah...it's obvious.

DKW,a question.... Why the antagonism? Ever hear the phrase...."Silence Is Golden"?

In all honesty,I get the feeling you are vying for some kind of "forum cred", with what is in reality just a group of strangers....Most who are courteous and friendly and whom I really like! So,what are you vying for?

magictwanger

Also,to be perfectly honest...To call folks Fredo and The Mafia is really a put down....I'm surprised Chess.com let you get away with that. Just lighten up & be a mensch.Without some kind of nasty/childish comeback.

@magictwanger Yeah I think we all get the picture of his type. I think some friends are getting together for a block party this weekend.

Powderdigit

Actually, I missed that on my first pass view and I really like the set - that is quite a strange crack as it is across the grain - it’s a bummer when any pieces crack, so I’d be interested in any knowledge of how it occurred and I imagine it may be replaceable?

Well, I have recently decided to ignore this fellow. He said he doesn’t think about any of us, but apparently he does.

Let’s recall the definition of a troll. The best way to handle one is to refuse to interact with him, no matter how much he tries to bait us and insult.

DKW, nice point you find an implausible crack in chess pieces presented as the very best. The bully that budges no inch. Let's rather talk about that you put a firearm on your chess table next to your chess pieces, state of the art photography kitsch whatever, naming the ensemble 'your weapon of choice'. Kann jar nicht so viel fressen, wie ich kotzen möchte. You are not a loveable junkyard dog, you are a free radical. I am sending out a friend request to you. Chess.com agrees.
