Chessmaster is inadequate when it comes to database and repertoire management. If you've got the money, get ChessBase (you can try Chessbase light for free via chessbase.com) and if you don't have the money, get SCID (Shane's chess Information database).
chess software pc

A follow up for any one interested. I have ChessMaster 9000 as previously mentioned the software is good as a "general" chess software. The database and repertoire management is weak. As a training tool I fine the many computer opponents a great way to develop skills. The listing of openings and extensive cross refference of the openings is great. The annotation of CMG games has proven a good way to find flaws in my game. Keep in mind it is not the ultimate chess software but I still find it usefull. SCID has become my database manager of choice, I have not developed an understanding of all the features. The repertoire manager so far has proven exactly what I need at this time. Some of the other aspects of SCID I haven't taken the time to work thru. ChessBase Light is a marketing tool for ChessBase so using the free software is limited in effectiveness.
not sure what I am looking for.
Chess software that manages opening books, including ability to intergrate my own and other opening books.
Also looking for a database program to manage completed games in PGN format files. Ideally I would like something that will return Query results a specific move number.
Any advise ???
