Chess Tutor Step 4 & 5 release date

Dear everybody,

In order to further improve my chess, i have decided to use the great chess learning method, stappenmethode or steps method.

I bought the self study books 1 to 5 (" lekker schaken" ) and will be doing one step at a time, starting from step 1 until i have the feeling that i have mastered it. Together with it, i will use Chess tutor for optimal training.

Once upon a time i had TASC but due to a moving i dont have the CD ROM anymore,. Anyways.. i am noticing that step 1 ,2 and 3 are for sale with chess Tutor but not step 4 & 5. Will these ever be released? I tried to contact them but to no avail, maybe they are not existing anymore?

Does anybody have some news on this, it has been some years when step 3 chess tutor was released. Are there any plans for 4 and 5 or are they in the works?

Kind regards,

Michiel Tummers

I suspect that there will not be any new Chess Tutors released.

In the early steps 1-3, the Chess Tutor software is helpful, especially the mini-games which go by different rules than a full chess game.

Have you tried asking on the HIARCS forum? There are lots of obsessive chess computer collectors there.

i havent done this yet tbh, simply because im unaware of it. Im getting  back into chess just recently and remembered i always learned via steps method and the chessmaster Grandmaster edition (which one cant even download anymore for a good price)

Bit late to the party - found this thread because google sent me here when I was looking for the same thing.

Don't know if you're still looking, but it is still possible to get TASC. I saw it in action for the first time just last week and as a software developer it gave me a good chuckle. The "help -> about" box says the software is millenium proof, beautiful grin.png

Anyway, I found my copy via archive.org. There are 2 .iso downloads there, and you must try both, because only one of them has the version that works on modern Windows. I did also find one shop that was still selling it: https://www.schaakboekenspecialist.nl/a-62935472/dvd-s-cd-s/tasc-cd-2/

I wish the entire Steps Method (Steps 1-6) and Chess Tutor CD’s (levels 1-3) would modernize into an interactive e-book(s), app(s), or a large educational training website that tracks your results.

It is impossible to set up all thousands of those positions and study them unless you spend hours per day on chess and have nothing else to do.

Why isn’t the Steps Method to digital content? Something along the lines of “but children like getting new workbooks.” C’mon, … there is a large customer base of amateur adult learners like myself who would gladly fork over our money and delay retirement a few years for that kind of systematically arranged incremental chess training content. Coaches and trainers could also make use of such a program for individual or groups of students.
