Chessnut Air Review

"This app is not available for any of your device" (tablet Meberry M6 with Android 9 and smartphone Alcatel/TCL 1B 2022 with Android 11 Go) so no download available from Google Store. Downloaded v1.3.10 apk from APKPure, it's working fine on the Alcatel 5031G but no longer on the Meberry (the CA does not connect via BT).

P.S. Also Khadim's WhitePawn app has been updated to v2.5.10 (a beta version, I guess) and runs fine on Meberry  

The app has multiple obvious failings, which you should have noted.
Does not allow editing of player names.
Does not retain settings.
Stops recording when time runs out.
Keeps "losing token", requiring me to log in again with password.
Does not allow exporting of games. Can only copy/past pgn text.

As for the board, I am finding it impossible to record live games reliably. It keep losing track of the position, particularly when my phone screen times out.

To be frank, I don't have any of these problems.

Has anyone heard if the pro version will have the pieces be weighted? I'm so close to pre-ordering.  I do love my Chessnut air even with some of the connectivity issues, but I'd love a tournament size set if the pieces were decent.  And with the $100 off for pre-ordering and having the Air combo, this makes the price worth it if the quality is up to snuff.

I think we will know soon.  They posted a pic on the facebook page of the arrival of new chess pieces which I think are for the pro and for the chessnut air.

Hey! I’m considering getting a chessnut air, but I’m wondering if they have any wooden pieces that’s re compatible with the board? Is there anybody selling wooden chessnut pieces using the sensor chip things they also sell? 

On the Chessnut Air Facebook page, the maufacturers have released photos of the alternative wooden pieces that can be bought for the Chessnut Air.  I don't think that they have been released yet, but will likey be soon.  They noted that these will have to be bought in addition to the plastic pieces and not as an alternative.

The device has stopped connecting to the app. Everything configured correctly. (GPS, permission, ...).  It has changed the name that Bluetooth LE recognizes. (It used to be "Chessnut Air". Now it's "d4". With this name, the device connects correctly to "WhitePawn" and "Chess for Android". It doesn't connect to other apps. Where could be the problem? Maybe something can be done hard reset?

Anyone had such a problem?

I'll test, but it was working just fine last night for me.  The Chessnut app has issues, because I think the API has some things in it they can't utilize so white pawn or Chess for Android is the way to go for lichess in my opinion.

That being said I connect to the board no problem and can play on chess.com if need be.

Is there any way to play on chess.com without the Chessnut app?

How is it possible that the name of the "chessnut Air" device seen by bluetooth LE has changed? Now I can't connect to the Chessnut app. Only works with "WhitePawn" and "Chess for Android" and via USB.

Not sure as just checked mine and connects up with the Chessnut app fine 

If like me, you find it annoying to have to clumsily rotate the board at the beginning of a random internet match up because you've been allocated the opposite colour to what's physically in front of you, I describe a fairly inexpensive solution here that might significantly improve your quality of life!  At least, it did for me! https://www.chess.com/blog/vitualis/chessnut-air-this-hack-will-improve-your-life
