Contemporary walnut burl and birds eye maple chess board and antique Jaques club size set

I just received this wonderful second hand walnut burl and birds eye maple chess board from Frank Camaratta's Chess Antiques shop and thought to share few photos here.

I highly recommend Frank's www.chessantiques.com store. He was very helpful and responsive to all my questions. The board was even better than what I expected (these photos cannot capture the magical nature of both walnut burl and birds eye maple). The shipping was fast and the board was very well packed to protect it.

I know that the antique Jaques set probably should have its contemporary board, but I love the combination . This particular set was manufactured around 1916 - 1917, and it is full club sized and very heavily weighted. I really like the Marshall style as the play feel is really nice.

Yeah, what they said. The Marshall is a favorite with me also. Alas, I have only copies. That board is gorgeous.

Can’t go wrong with the classic look. This has a vintage feel as well.

Very nice, thanks for posting.

I've got some old Jaques and other sets, and I've been on the lookout for a decent antique board for over a year now. I finally found one and paid £900 or so for one with 2.75 inch squares, but it turned up with a big split in the frame. I sent it back and they fixed it then sold it to someone else for over £1000.

Now I'm not convinced it's worth bothering with antique boards, you seem to get a lot more for your money with modern boards. Your board looks to be a beauty

Wow that board looks like it would be the center piece of Anyones collection.

I'm no expert either but, to me, the shape and slot of the bishop's mitre seems unique to the Marshall.
