The display is slick.

Very slick, indeed. As a DGT3000 owner, I think I like it. I hope it's a bit heavier and sturdier feeling than the 3000.

Edit: Just ordered now. 1 left on amazon!

It’s cool but doesn’t connect to DGT board like the 3000.
lotsoblots

That's a great point, @Schachmonkey. How can it be the official clock of FIDE if it can't connect to the board? Very interesting.

Anyway, I love how they seem to have made it VERY simple to configure with many nice default timings. And proper byo-yomi support is much welcome for this shogi player!

I love it. It seems very familiar to any other clocks but anyway, these clocks are good.

Like an ambulance ever ready and helpful, just not saving lives but timing games. It has a sweet piece of Hamburger Speck on top! I'm alarmed they did not display the tenth (or first) digit! I hope it's on the clock. Check on arrival, mates wink.png

The features list this new option:

“Optional automatic period transition
The DGT2500 can be set to automatically move to the next period after a set number of moves is made.”

What does that mean, and how does it differ from the way DGT’s have previously been working?
Skeeterbreath
Ahh, I found this in the manual:

“6. Period transition
When a timing option has multiple periods, the transition from one period to the next occurs when the time reaches 0:00 in the first period. The time of the second period is applied and for 5 minutes the “flag” bars will be shown to indicate a period transition.
Period transition by move count
It is also possible to set the clock, so that the period transition occurs when a certain number of moves have been made (or to be precise, when the lever has been switched a certain number of times). This function is called “Forced move counter”. If this function is active, the time of the next period is added automatically to the current time when the move counter reaches the set number of moves. For the default options, the move count has been pre-set based on standard FIDE timing systems. If you wish to set a different number of moves, use a manual setting instead.
If you wish to play with the period transition based on the move counter. First select the option you wish to play. Then before starting the game, press and hold the left arrow button. When the # symbol appears on the display, the “Forced move counter” is activated.”

The pertinent phrase is:

“If this function is active, the time of the next period is added automatically to the current time when the move counter reaches the set number of moves”

That is very cool. I prefer the time to be added in this manner. It allows you to always be aware of how much time you have remaining, without any confusion over what time period you are in

Strange, that last post compressed all my text and eliminated spacing. Here is another try

Still no backlit... Eh... Anyway, that is a successor to DGT 2010, not DGT 3000.

Cool

Eyechess

So, what is the opinion of this clock compared to others like the DGT 3000, Chronos, V-Tek and others?

I like the looks of it.  How easy is it to reset for a new Game?

The price seems high, but it just came available.

what do you folks think?

felonet
Can you use such a clock without a DGT board? As a regular clock - disconnected from any technology or the internet?

It looks really cool
Eyechess

It does not appear to be able to connect to a DGT sensory board.  So, I would say one must use it as a stand alone clock.

It still seems a bit high priced for such a clock.

The Chronos and V-Tek clocks are easy to use when playing a number of games in a row.  They can be reset for play by just pushing a button a few times.

The DGT 3000 must be turned off then go through a sequence of different button presses to reset it for play.

While I like mine, I rather use one of my other clocks for skittle play.

If this new 2500 model is like the 3000 for resets, I won’t get one.

That's another good point, @Eyechess. I'll report back once I've played with mine...I just got an email that it shipped now.

As mentioned above, the primary thing I like about it is that it can be set so that the display updates your remaining time once you make the required number of moves. As far as I can tell, the other DGT’s do not offer that capability. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Also, the very large easy to read display is very nice, and the improvement to make the lever position easier to determine from a distance
Skeeterbreath
It also has larger flags when a player runs out of time, very easy to see from distance
