Now that is an awesome timer! Where can I get one of those???
dgt 3000 chess clock

Has anyone used the DGT 3000 at the U.S. National Open?
The time control is 40/90, SD/30, +30 second increment.
I received the DGT 3000 as a gift and I think I have it set correctly on one of the customizable presets, but would love to hear from anyone with experience. Thanks.
You can use preset 13 for 40/90,SD/30;inc30. If you use preset 13, the second time control will be added simultaneously for both players once the time in the first time control runs out for one of the players, regardless of if the prescribed number of moves in the first time control were met. This is perfectly fine and is often the recommended way of having the second time control added. However, if you want the second time control added once you reach 40 moves, you can manually set the time control in one of the five manual setting slots, options 26-30.

@Micahsmith, thank you. I wasn't sure if the Fischer setting was the way to go. I believe the second time control is added once 40 moves have been reached reached (if you don't get 40 moves in before 90 minutes are up, you lose). But if I am reading correctly, the DGT doesn't allow for the number of moves to be input in a way that will require those 40 moves to be met before starting the second time control.

"Fischer" is another term often used for increment since Bobby Fischer patented the increment timing method.
If you set the DGT 3000 manually for an increment time control using one of the options 26-30, it allows the number of moves required in the first time control to be set and it will require that number of moves to be made before it adds the second time control. If a player runs out of time in the first time control without making the required number of moves, the clock will not add the second time control.
If you use preset 13 and your opponent runs out of time in the first time control without making 40 moves, the clock will add the second time control but you can still claim a time forfeit.

I think I'm being dense. @Micahsmith I really appreciate your input here, but I don't see where setting the # of moves for the first time control is possible. The manual says the moves can only be set in Fischer mode and when using US Delay, the players basically need to watch the clock.

@ChessAuthor The time control you describe has Fischer increments in both periods, right? So you can set it up to automatically proceed to the second period. You're right that this isn't possible with US Delay, but you don't seem to be using that.

@BulletHole13, Actually I am using US Delay. The Fischer increment adds unused bonus time to your clock and that's not what I'm looking for.

@ChessAuthor In a period with US Delay you can't have the clock automatically advance after a preset number of moves. In your post you were talking about an "increment", so I thought you meant Fischer. But I think what you want isn't possible. The idea here is that you check the number of moves after the first period.
