Discontinued chess pieces?

Hey all,

When I was younger (elementary school-junior high school) I used to play in tournaments out in California. I had a roll-up board, like most tournament boards, and the chess pieces I used looked like regular pieces with one big difference; they weren't smooth. If you imagine regular chess pieces, and how they are smooth and shiny, these looked exactly like them except they weren't shiny and smooth-I am unsure of what word to use to describe them. Milky? Textured? Not shiny? I'm unsure. The bottom felt was green, just like most chess pieces.

Anyway, I have been scouring the internet and gone to a couple chess stores here in NYC, and nobody seems to know what I'm talking about. The only pieces they know of are shiny and smooth. Does anyone know what I'm talking about/what the piece style is called/where I can find some? Thanks so much in advance...

Some plastic pieces got to be matte and a little textured in the 80s.

edit: I'm referring to the very standard USCF solid plastic pieces that once were all shiny and at least for awhile all acquired a dull finish.

Is this standard style what the OP has in mind or another style?

Aha! Thank you all so much.

At long last I found the pieces I needed. I appreciate it thoroughly.

Interesting chess set.  Is that Nazi vs. British or Nazi vs. Russian?  Can't see the flags on the Allied set but since they're red could be the Soviet Union's flag.

Reminds me of the Franklin Mint American Revolution or Civil War sets.

When I was visiting Toronto several years back, I saw a Babylonian theme chess set.  It was truly neat, but it was $200+ and at that time it seemed too much.  However, on the way home I wished I had purchased it. I have never seen one like it since.
