Hey all,

Just downloaded the chess engine Stockfish, but apparently it's just a set of files and I read here in the forums that you need a GUI to work along with it.  I'm wondering what the best GUI's would be?

Thanks a bunch!

I'm using Windows 8, by the way.

I'm not sure about Win 8 compatibility, but popular GUIs are Scid vs. PC, Arena, and Lucas Chess. Also possibilities are Tarrasch Chess GUI and Winboard. (This question has been asked probably a hundred times before, so you might just want to search for some of those threads.)

There are plenty of free options but you cannot go wrong with paying for a Chessbase program with the Fritz GUI. It doesnt really matter which product you really get as you are changing the engine used anyway.  Considering the huge amount of time you will use it the 100usd cost is a tiny investment.

I prefer Scid vs. PC.   My tribute to it can be found here.

Scid vs. pc.

I prefer Fritz and Arena GUIs for chess engines.

cdowis75

Lucas Chess interface.  Already has stockfish as the default.

Does anybody use SCIDvsMac? If so do you any problems.
