I have an extensive DVD collection and some of my DVDs come in box sets with some extras, like maybe a poster or some stickers, but this may be the most unusual in my collection. For the movie Knights of the South Bronx (2005) this box set comes with a wooden chess set with a 9 1/4 inch chess board (playing field of 9 1/16") with wooden pieces that have 2 1/4 inch king, also the book Chess for Kids plus the DVD itself. I bought this about a year ago in a flea market for about 80 Mexican pesos (about 4 American dollars), which is a steal. The chess pieces are not weighted but they do have magnets that stick them to board nicely as well as having felt bottoms.

I believe this set was not intended for sale but rather as a promotional item for the movie itself. Sometimes movie studios will give away DVDs to reviewers so they will review their movie. It may be also that it was intended for schools as it has the Chess for Kids book which introduces the game and gives you the basic rules. Especially because the movie deals with a teacher that uses chess to help them better their education. Anyway, here are some pictures.

Knights of the South Bronx Knights of the South Bronx box set. Inside, the movie, Chess for Kids book and a chess set. A closer look at the book and DVD. A very nice chess board with felt-lined side drawers. Sturdy wood pieces with felt bottoms and magnets. The dark pieces are wood colored. White pieces are wood colored as well, just unstained. The A&E logo is burned on the side of the board. The network that originally aired this movie.
