He has that series of books that is pretty advanced. The typical recommendation is to be 2000 to pick them up and start studying, and yes they are highly regarded.
Dvoretsky Books
Dvoretsky's book n the endgame is quite good but harder than Silman's.He also have a 5 volume set which covers pretty much everything ( there are 3 sets of the basically the same series)--now published by Olm's. These are quite hard and his books really require the reader to work hard and put lots of effort in. I have read parts of these but I find them very tiring. Ms Zenyuk has also mentioned the two Dorfman books in her article --these I think are not that good. The idea of critical points in a game is excellent but it did not help me figure out when the critical point was.
I have been reading Lars Bo Hansen's books and have found them excellent.
If you read Silman's books, your rating should be bigger than 1300. Perhaps you read them like a novel and you did not work through all the positions there?

About 20 yrs ago Dvoretsky was the top trainer in the world. If you really are an advanced player (IM+) and money is no object, then he's your guy.

Well he has books on school of excellency and school of future champions
Now i am confuse here, which should i pick up first ? or both are equally good ?
@ozzie
I wonder how much money he will take for an hour of lesson :) ...

I don't think you are strong enough for those books (if I am remembering the titles correctly). 2000 otb would be a good strength to have in order to use these books. Still several hundred away from that?

I am unrated btw :)
But only bcoz i have not participated in fide tournament ...time as come to participant in one and check my level

I guess it depends on whether you want to be an excellent chess player or merely a champion.
I had a similar problem picking a chess book recently. I was at the bookstore at the mall and there were two very good books there. Chess for Dummies and the Idiot's Guide to Chess. But in the end, I couldn't figure out if I am an idiot or a dummy, so I didn't know which book to get.

School of Chess Excellence are by Dvoretsky alone, School of Future Champions are by Dvoretsky and Yusupov. The latter are lectures from the training stages they did with the best USSR youngsters in 1989-1992, most of them became top players. The Excellence books are other lectures by Dvoretsky.
His main trade is bringing IMs to top GM level; if you're below, say, 2200 then you have other stuff to learn first. If you're unrated, well...

Hello,
I wonder if fellow members can tell me how much Dvoretsky books can improve my Chess. I have completed reading Silman books. So how different is Dvoretsky books as compared to Silman? I am looking Advance books, so please recommend some of the books for Advance knowledge for all positions. I also wonder why Dvoretsky are not famous. I mean, People often recommend me Silman books no body has ever recommend me before Dvoretsky books. I was not aware of Dvoretsky before WIM Iryna Zenyuk posted article here, but when i did google search about him, It become clear to me he is great coach. Is his books are not good as his coaching ?
Thanks in advance
