Excalibur New York Times

I just got it yesterday & this puppy is loaded with features. It is model # NY22 which I think is the latest version. The pieces are easy to read & the touch screen works great with little pressure from the stylus to move the pieces. The sound effects are a little extreme though... such as swords clanging, horses galloping, screaming, horses neying etc... You can turn the sounds off. The program identifies itself as Chessica...the program? It has a female voice that whimpers when you beat it...cool! It is rather strong even at the lower levels & definately will challange you. I highly reccomend this one.!!

The NY22 ($80) looks like a fine choice for a handheld to play games against.  :)

Consider Palm Hiarcs ($145) if you also want to replay master games, analyze positions, take notes, and read chess articles.

Hi, I got this game recently and love it.  The stylus pen that comes with it however, broke within the first hour of playing.  Even though you dont need very much pressure on the screen to make a selection, the stylus is really cheap.  So I guess I'll have to buy a new pen from somewhere, super glue only held it together for about a week. 

For an electronic handheld chess game, this one is great.

I don't know. I can only tell you mine's survived six months of light usage and being connected / disconnected from a computer a couple dozen times, and from its light weight I'm guessing it's likely to survive a short fall but not someone stepping on it.
