Eyechess

I bought this set at the same, low price earlier.  I first bought the Golden Rosewood a year and a half ago.  I liked it so much that I bought the Ebonized version early this year.  And I bought both at this sale price.

I find it to be a great set, especially at this price and recommend it, highly.

Just received my ebonized version of the set today. The two ebonized rooks came with slight scratches on the base. As always, Julian and Kevin from the House of Staunton took care of it and replacements are already on the way.

Eyechess is right, I am very impressed with the set. Especially for the price.

Cannot wait to play with it this weekend.

I bought the padauk (blood rosewood) version a few years ago and it's gorgeous.  I see that it's not offered anymore though.

Folks, whom currently (2025) makes good reproductions of this set? Thanks!

Try here. It's on clearance so there's no way to know how many are left. (There are also other sizes available, just search "Fischer - Spassky 1972 Commemorative".)

Half the cost of a copy of My 60 Memorable Games book with Bobby's authentic autograph that was being sold on eBay for $10,000. The story of the signing of the book was even mentioned in another book about Bobby Fisher as he was known to refuse to give autographs. The ebay listing was pulled on the day of his death as the value of the book went from "absurd" to "priceless" afterwards.

Thanks again, folks. I'm getting the feeling that most of these are made in India and perhaps there are a few vendors selling them in the West. Just looking for a known good vendor and product in the EU.

PWalker1

I seem to remember other users here in the forum like @ungewichtet @HermanJohnell @chessmaster_diamond @uchebuike [and others] have mentioned and shown pictures of their experiences in the recent past with EU vendors such as:

Italfama

I would suggest, @Puttpurtle, to reach out to them directly via PM. Or search them up yourself using a keyword search within the forum sidebar. Usually, folks are kind enough to share or direct you to a thread they have commented on or posted. If you want a professional collector's take on the matter, one who has a website and written scholarly articles, many here are familiar with the friendly and wise forum user @EfimLG47 who can likely offer a plethora of suggestions.

GL in your search.

Very grateful for your leads, thanks very much!
