Fischer's Preference: About Dubrovnik 1950 & 1970 Set, Setting the record straight

I have read some confusion in another forum regarding this. And about which one of the two Fischer kept in his safe in Pasadena, etc.

So I'm setting it straight for everyone: Fischer clearly said the 1950 Original (Dubrovnik I) "is probably the best set I have ever played on. It's marvelous." But he NEVER OWNED ONE. His personal set that he talks about is this one:

The redesigned 1970's version (Dubrovnik II) is the one "I analysed with and traveled around the world with. It was light, perfect for travel, the wood was hard, pieces didn't fall over," etc.

Dubrovnik I for 1992 Match was loaned by a collector, again not Bobby's set.

I hope this helps.

All in all, the 1970´s was his beloved set, but the 1950 was the best set he ever played with.

I know most people on this forum won't share my sentiments, but I've only ever been attracted to the dubrovnik chess sets because the repros from Noj look very nice. I couldn't really care less about what Fischer used or said about those sets.

Thank you maik.

I agree that those Slovenian repros are very nice. Exquisite in fact. And not only the Dubrov designs.
