Hi

I want to buy a chess board and I loved the folding chess board from HOS

But the shipping cost is very expensive

So I was searching for other board from diffrent site

And I found this and they offer free shipping its more than 50 dollar cheaper than HOS with shipping

http://www.chessbazaar.com/deluxe-walnut-wooden-folding-chess-board-brown-color-18-50-mm.html?___SID=U

So do you recommend buy it ?

Is chessbazzar a good supplier and have a good costumer service ?

I found that when you change currency in chessbazzar the prices changed do recommend buying in specific currency ?

Thanks

baddogno

I normally do recommend ChessBazaar as good "bang for the buck" value, but not this time.  Did you note that the boards are made in Spain and that they are veneer?   Admittedly on sale, but I've gotten veneer folders as low as $60.  Can I find the link...

And they're still on sale.  http://www.chessset.com/folding-chess-board.html

Ipoebaa, I've made a number of purchases from CB, and like their service, their products, their prices, and their free four-day shipping from India. This board looks to be the same brand sold by HOS and manufactured in Spain. I have three of them, and I truly like them. The annotated ones baddogno posts about are also nice--I have two of them. I like them but found they're a cut below the Spanish ones. I've had one warping problem with them. It really comes down to price and whether you prefer the annotated or unannotated board. A question for you--how big are the pieces you plan on using? The CB board you linked to has 2" squares, a tad too small for the standard 3.75 inch king set. I wouldn't go below a 2.25 inch square for that. Good luck!

How tall is your king?

Ipoebaa

4 inch

1.7 base

You should get a board with 2.375"-2.5" squares. I know folding ones are available in 2.375". Not so many in 2.5".

The 1.7" base in a Staunton design would be too big on a 2.0" square board.  I know because I do have a set of this size.

The smallest square for this set would be 2.125" (2 1/8").  A 2.25" square would also work and considering the 4" height of the King might be better.

I'm with everyone else on needing a bigger board. I've got my 4 inch set on a 2 1/4" board and it's just about right if not a little small. 2" would be way too small for comfort.

Ok thanks I think I should buy a new smaller pieces because I think smaller chess board will be easier to carry

So did any one buy this board from chessbazar ?

Thanks

Well, I think real craftsmanship is hard to find today for many things, except for extremely high prices.  But products I have purchased from chessbazaar till date are of exceptional quality. I will say CB did a decent job listening to my queries every time I had. Some people like the chess sets form CB, other people don't think they're elegant.  But I think they're well made and attractive.

Note CB also sells defective chess pieces and boards in their imperfect category you will get a chessboard around $50 in their imperfect category but they are not worth. These all chess stores sell their defective chess products at eBay auctions. I will recommend you neither buy from eBay auctions nor from imperfect category because they will not provide you any support or guarantee on the item you have purchased from auctions or imperfect category.

CB told me that they hand inspect every package before dispatching and yes their product quality reflects their quality standard. chessbazaar default price currency in US is $ and I will recommend you to purchase in USD. I have read in other chess forums that if you order from H.O.S or chess store etc you will have to bear the all custom charges if you are not ordering within US where as I have ordered thrice from CB to my US & UK address and have no such issues with the customs whatsoever.

I mean at the end of the day these are people the same as you and me, but as a business they sell exceptional quality of chess sets at low prices. First time I was also reluctant to buy from CB but after reading good reviews here I made up my mind to take the plunge.

Good Luck.

He needs your help again guys.

/ I did note that the url on #1 implies a 4.6" king but the description says that the king is just 4.0", just like the king size for set #2.  And the widths for both sets are also listed as 1.7".

It seemed strange to me then, that the recommended board size for set #1 is 2.0" while the recommended board size for set #2 is 2.25".

On closer inspection, the metric king base widths are 42mm on set #1 and 45mm on set#2. The difference, 3mm, is 0.11 inches.  Hence, set #2 should be listed as having a king base of 1.8 inches.

The reason I include this detail is that recommendations on which set to get have to take your actual board size into account.

Therefore, they would need to know whether you actually bought the folding board from chessbazaar with its less than 2" actual dimensions (50 mm=1.96") or went with one from the HOS with a minimum square size of 2.25" (57mm).
