can anyone tell me the difference between fritz 13 and fritz chess 13? is it just that you get one month of access to playchess.com instead of 6?

Moyuba

anyone know??

I know fritz 13 and deep fritz 13; no idea what fritz chess 13 is.

Ask someone who's selling the programs and/or ChessBase, who makes Fritz. I've looked this up before and it's confusing, maybe intentionally so.

Unless money is no object just get the cheapest version of Fritz you can find at amazon, eBay or thru Google shopping. Trust me, you dont need the latest and greatest version if you're not a FM, SM, IM or GM.

Or better yet try using Arena and/or Windboard (both free) and you can load them with free chess engines such as Houdini, Firebird, Stockfish and critter. If you don't like the freeware you can always move on to something else.

I've got Fritz 12 and I'm sorry I bought it, its a good program but I had F10 and really didn't need all the latest and greatest bells and whistles in F12.

it's definitely confusing, one of them is published by a different company, excalibur games or something like that. anyway, i've emailed chessbase to ask them what the difference is. i'll post in here if they get back to me.

i have tried a few of the different freeware options. i have scid, winboard and arena. i don't find any of them very easy to use and they all seem to be decent at one thing and lacking at others. i'd quite like to just have one program to use for analysing, training and databasing.

i just bought deep fritz 13, never heard of fritz chess my self, but for £83 for deep fritz, its well worth it

Chregg

and as far as playing deep fritz full strength, its got harder lol only kiddin, the menu bar is alot better, i was using fritz 10 for years there, its still the same fritz, but with improvements, like all incarnations of software apps

Mayuba yeah you should buy something, but I'd go for something cheap and not necessarily the latest version unless you're rolling in dough - well at least a little dough :=)

I've never used winboard or arena but a lot of players here swear by them, but if you don't like them or they don't work for you it's time to buy something.Whatever you buy(?)  should be able to handle additional (free) chess engines, well I know Fritz will             http://www.zfchess.com/engines.html

AND check out ChessBase Lite 2009 DB, free, holds up to 32,000 games per DB. Handy for storing your games and a cheap way to decide if you like DBs enuff to buy one (the 32,000 game limit is way too small for many commercial DBs)

yeah i don't want to spend much on a chess program, which is why i asked this question. i can get fritz chess 13 for like £15 which is half the price of fritz 13. if it is missing a lot of features then i may well just buy an old version of fritz.

I think you're referring to the Viva Media version of Fritz 13.  It's the single processor version of Fritz 13.  It's the same product you would get directly from Chessbase except you don't get a full year of Playchess.com.  You get three months.  It's a good buy, if only to get the Fritz interface to use with other chess engines.  You can get a downloadable version from Amazon for only $19.99.

Viva media probably have the licensing rights for it in america, in england it's excalibur games publishing. it probably amounts to the same thing.

i got an email back from chessbase and they said "it's a licensed version so i don't know exactly what's in there."

very useful. i've emailed excalibur games to see if they can tell me any more.

NimzoRoy

ChessBase doesn't know what's in their own software being made by someone else? I'm underwhelmed with their lack of interest in their own products.

Moyuba

excalibur got back to me, they said it's the same just with less access to playchess.com. think i'll be getting the one that is half the price then!

Any suggestion for an android app that allows me to set up pieces into a position that I want analyzed for next move either white or black without having to go through importing game or going through the entire game to that point, ie, remove pieces place them to the final position I want analysed. I am a beginner with not a lot of time to analyze an entire game but want to use the app to coach me and compare my moves to what the app would do ie real time coaching.
