So I find Fritz 11 on the sale rack at an Office Depot. I install it, and it asks for a serial number, even with the DVD in the drive. It tells me multiple times that the serial number is printed on the front of the DVD cover, yet I look and find no 25-digit number. Neither is one engraved on the DVD itself. Then I find remnants of a serial number ... on a section of adhesive that had been holding the DVD book closed. When I opened the DVD book, the serial number disappeared.
Still, this is easy enough to fix. Simply write to Viva, tell them what happened, ask them what proof of ownership they want, and get a serial number. Right? I wouldn't know, because they haven't responded after three emails. Their website has no phone number. The people of Chessbase tried to help, but they can't, because their licensee, Viva, is the actual publisher. (Lesson 1: Buy direct from Chessbase; they read emails.)
So now I'm thinking, "Maybe someone else has had this problem. Maybe they solved it without Viva, or know someone at Viva."
So, has anyone had this problem? Was there some way you were able to pull the serial number from the DVD? Is it in a directory on the DVD? This is not a hack; I own the DVD, and I can prove it. I can prove I'm the first and only owner, not counting Viva Media or Office Depot.
Alternately, does anyone have a phone number for Viva media, or a contact at Viva with whom you have resolved such an issue?
I would be very grateful for any help you can offer.
