Fritz 12 is coming soon...

...to my door.

I just recently have had this ordered for me by my girlfriend but I have been researching it to make sure it would work on my CPU and its features, watching videos of it on YouTube and checking out old topics about it on here.

Besides my excitement level being through the roof lately about chess, I'm hoping I don't have to worry about my CPU and the power this program needs to work. But I have a couple "Qs" for anyone that have this program.

 1. Do you need the disk in the drive all the time or is it just for occasional CD-checks, and if so, is there a crack for it anywhere?

 2. What's the highest/lowest Elo strength it plays at because I read on a few sites that it is adjustable from a few hundred to 3000.

If anyone wants to share some spotlight on this and let me know what I am looking forward to, I thank you for your help.

Do you not even get ashamed of asking about illegitimate software ?

ChessMarkstheSpot

it's not the first time people have asked for cracks on this site, especially this topic

He may be asking about no-cd cracks, which legitimate owners may use to avoid needing the CD in the drive.

ChessMarkstheSpot

that's exactly why I am asking. I have a laptop and I know how fragile the CD Rom drives are. I just need to know if there is one so I can save the life of my drive.

Seems to say no CD required for use.

Fritz12 runs completely off the hard drive

ChessMarkstheSpot

It does? if that's the case you've just made me very happy. Thanks for letting me know. Smile

I have fritz 12 and I installed i on the hardrive but still have to put the disk in the drive to run it

ChessMarkstheSpot

that's what I originally heard, but wanted to make sure which is why I posted this thread

EternalChess
I highly doubt you need cd in order to run it, I think it's a one time thing, all it needs to do is add the program to your computer and your good, it's not a game where the software is 10 gb thus needing the cd everytime
gorgeous_vulture

I've got Fritz12.

(1) You can run it completely off the hard drive (I do). There is a registration process involved and it all just works after that (I think it records the MAC address of your computer)

(2) The rating is adjustable from just under 1,000 to over 3,000 (I forget the exact numbers). I'm a 1500 player on chess.com and with Fritz set to 1200 I've started winning 30 minute rated games a little over half the time now (previously I lost almost all of them - chess mentor is your friend!). The way Fritz dumbs itself down is the best I've seen. It doesn't make bizarre errors (see http://www.chess.com/forum/view/livechess/computer-hard-sometimes-makes-bizarre-errors). I think there's also a mode where Fritz will adapt its strength in rated games depending on your record against it.

The natural language analysis is pretty good too. I still slightly prefer the chess.com analysis but Fritz's is not far behind.

thanks Nick. That's the only thing I am worried about is needing the CD all the time in the drive, or bringing it with me everywhere I go. Thanks again  :)

After installing I have never taken the CD out of it's green case again

Use "Virtual CloneDrive" (Freeware) and you don´t need the CD in the drive.

ChessMarkstheSpot

lol, different people are saying different things. Does it depend on the cpu or the type of install? But thanks for the feedback everyone

dadam

My advice has nothing to do with the cpu or the cd.

Since some years I always use that program. You make a image of the CD, load it with "Virtual CloneDrive" .. thats all.

Paul, I checked out the link and read all the info. My laptop exceeds most of the requirements for Fritz 12. I am not as worried about it now as I was when I originally posted this topic. All should work well. Thanks again.

Fritz 12 will require the cd on some tasks when first installed. IE analysis mode will ask to put cd back in but only for 2 seconds. According to computer chess figures its not the strongest engine but it has the best visuals. IE the interface is very well done. (Especially if your a microsoft word expert). No real need for the instruction manual similar to the old days of fritz 6 and 7.

CPU is the processing unit or brain on your computer motherboard, the faster the better. Go for at least 2.4GHz up to 3.6.

RAM, random access memory is a high speed storage mechanism to remember operations performed, minimum 2GB, preferably 4GB.

Cache is also storage medium, the higher the better, as info will be accessed faster.

Two types of cache:

1.     Motherboard, no less than L2 and preferably L3 cache that ranges from 8 to 16MB.

2.     Disk cache; go for 8 to 16MB.

Do not forget the bus speed; this is the highway that brings your info to your computer for processing. The larger the highway the more lanes can bring traffic into the computer at the same time.

Next is duo or quad core motherboards, the duo can process the info coming in on from 2 different streets or lanes, while the quad can process the info on 4 different streets by feeding the incoming info from your bus to whichever street is unoccupied and available at the time.

The higher bus speed such as 3000FSB (front side bus speed), has a lot more lanes to enable the info you feed into your computer. Recommended is to go for a minimum of 1333FSB, should be good enough for the next 5 years or so of your PC operation.

For software loading or install, where you able to read the PDF file I sent to you as the instructions seems to be very clear on it.

If not I will try to find a way to send it to you.

Hi, Paul! (my son's name is Paul Smile

I'm tracking this only because I'm hoping Fritz12 works for Mark, but wanted to thank you for your explanation here. I know very little about the workings of computers, but this actually gave me a "visual" on some of it and I appreciate that. Thanks!
