I have one. It's strictly a living room decoration. It looks nice when the sun hits it.
My sturdy tournament set gets the most use or my computer set.

I got one as a gift recently...it looks really cool...but, as has been said...contrast is the problem...it just adorns my room now...wood all the way.
Yes it was a great set. I wonder what happened to it after prooduction.
Fun Fact: Did you know that the final mating postiton from the movie was actually illegal since some pieces were misplaced?
I never noticed anything amiss in the final positions. I'll have to look again.
If people didn't want all this stuff they wouldn't buy it. If people quit buying it they will quit making it. Simple.
The glass set of Luzhin's youth from The Luzhin Defense was pretty nice though.

What did the set look like?
"brianb42", that looks just like mine.
I thought since no one else had posted a picture of one I would do it. Apparently these sets are cranked out by the thousands.

Mine was bought for me for five dollars, so you know they're pretty common. Wal-Greens, I believe
I am quite surprised with the opinions on glass chess sets. Recently i just discovered the phenominal world of the chess and my love for the game started to grow when one day i came across an unopened glass chess set underneath my staircase closet. I opened it and set it all up read the rules very breifly before being challenged by a friend of my brothers. My first official game on a 7.5"x 7.5" glass chess board (a little small for me) and i came out victorious! So that's where my love of the glass chess set comes from. I do see all the points that were brought up with it being hard to focus in on the squares and what not, but that does not discourage me. I like how it looks espcially when lit with colored led lights underneath it which pending on the color can help with the focusing of the squares. I plan to purchase a 15" glass chess set that has black and white colored glass and board very soon. I will share a review of it when i get it. But until then, i think we should at lease to try to give the glass chess set a little bit more
Thank you for speaking up. And if you mention you play chess to just about anybody, they like to claim they own a chess set- but oh, it's a glass chess set and it's beautiful, like very rare beautiful
I must agree with the OP. I also do not enjoy the feel of glass, I particularly hate the boards where the dark squares or even the pieces are made with a frosted finish. the scraping sound the pieces make on the board is not one that is smooth and suits my style of play which is fast and at times wreckless hehe.
I agree. They suck, and I keep getting them as presents. :D
