Good open source chess GUI software
Yeah, I meant programs like Chessbase, but that are open source or free to use, because Chessbase is reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally expensive to be bought from where I live. This stockfish app works like one? If so, where can I get it?

Hello everybody.
For the past few days I have been look for a free but still usable chess GUI. I made a bunch of searches and read some topics (Most of then was of 5+ years ago) looking for open source hess GUI. Then I already tried the following programs: Scid and his forks, ArenaChess, Tarraschchess, Fritz532, ChessX, LucasChess, PNGChessBook, MayuraChess and CraftyChess. But I don't see myself using any of then, and honestly I'm starting to get a little bit frustrated. So, I was wondering if anyone can please give me a suggestion of a software.
1- That is possible to analyze and insert comments into a game in a non messy way, and save the PNG afterwards.
2- That let me set up a position to analyze and play against the engine.
3- That have a stronger build in engine, or let me add new ones so I can manually insert a stronger one.
Anyone has any software suggestions?
You've already tried the GUIs that I'd recommend. It sounds to me like you want to be able to use a GUI without having to learn how to use it. I don't think that's going to happen.
SCID va PC is a popular option.
Yeah, of those that I tried Scid vs PC was definitively the one who got closest to satisfy my needs. Unfortunately, when I edit comments on games, things quickly became a mess. When I insert graphics (Arrows and colored squares) the code from the graphics appears on the comments sections, and if you try to erase then, the graphics are erased together. Witch is okay, I can live without this function. The biggest problems are the fact that I couldn't collapse comments section that are not currently being used (Couldn't figured out by myself, neither find nothing in the Help tab about it) and the monochromacy of the texts, that became a mess when you insert multiples analysis from different people/engines.
Do you know how can I solve those problems?
SCID vs PC is great software. Kinda ugly due to the TCL/TK design toolkit it is using, but very stable, functional, and fullfeatured.
Actually I like the interface of Scid vs PC.
Especially because they let you edit the board and pieces looks, letting me put my white and green board and my Merida3 pieces is all that I could ask from a GUI interface. My only problem with Scid vs PC is that when you put comments on a game, it's quickly became a mess as I described on the previously comment.
But again, I could being done something wrong. How did you manage the comments on your games so they don't get messy?

I swear is not case here. Every time I download a new GUI software I calmly read the Help tab (If is available) and go thought the buttons seeing what each one of then does. I just couldn't find a program that satisfy the 3 functions that I described on my first comment, and honestly I don't want to have 2 or 3 for this, because I just fell that it's gonna be a mess up everything when after some time of use.
That's why I'm kinda of getting frustrated, I can't believe that there isn't a single one of open source GUI software that I see myself using. And if I need to get the dust out of my old Python books to create my own program, it will be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more work that I expected to do.
But I still have faith on the open source community, I think that I just didn't find the right software... Or I'm not using properly one of the existing one.

Maybe the best option for you might be just to open the Windows->Gameinfo window and read the current simple comment in there. Righty clicking the gameinfo, you can select "Show Full Comment"

Not really. I will give a try thought. Thank you. =)

you could arrange the written comments and the arrows in two separate blocks in the comment editor, I do it this way so I can easily edit your move comments and arrows. also: the arrow commands will not be shown below the board, only your written comments. what I want to say is: don't try to read the comments for each move in the pgn tab but below the board itself.
