Interesting idea. Would other colors be possible? My eyes would have trouble with those colors, I think. What is the feel of the squares? Are they lacquered, smooth? Or, do they have the texture that is visible in the squares in the last photo?

Right now I only have this black and red combo.
The top surface is a clear coat, flat smooth surface.
The backside of the board has the textured feel that is natural to the weave.
Again, interesting to me, especially if it could be done with colors more varied so they are more visibly different.I think I like the idea.

Is this board better for hitting your opponent over the head with than other types of board?
Listed a new chess board yesterday. This will probably be the last board I make. They were a ton of fun to make, but they just take way too much time to build.
