The set was war booty, like the Stone of Scone

I would assume the set was mad from freshly quarried stones from the same mines that Machu Picchu stones were quarried all those centuries ago. Or maybe new mines in the same area. I would a assume that the magnificent ancient ruins were not vandalized to produce a chess set.

I learned on a recent trip to the acropolis in Athens, Greece. That there some international laws that govern ancient ruins. For instance the UN,NATO and others prohibit bombing of ancient ruins. Therefore, I assume that if the Government of Peru was to allow Machu Picchu stones to be harvested for profiteers to make chess set, other figurines, jewelry or other souvenirs, that the international community would step in and prevent it.
