Help finding pieces for 1.75” squares

So I finally may have settled on a board ... only to run into a potential snag. Finding pieces for a 1.75” is harder than I thought.

If I get this board, it’s spending more than I originally planned. But I think it’s nice. It just means that I’ll spend less on pieces now and maybe get some nicer ones later.

Anyway ... Can you guys and gals help me find some pieces for 1.75” (45mm) squares? Plastic is fine :)

Thanks!

A few 3.25" and 3.5" pieces here where the King is around 1.4" base (the 80% level), or some 3" with slightly smaller Kings:

For example:

Check the "Specifications" tab for each set to see the piece sizes.

Wow! Thanks! Wish the other sites like HoS or Chess Store had that many options so that I could avoid shipping costs.

I am very partial to Staunton pieces but I will admit I love my Knubbel analysis setthere is one that has a 3 inch king with a 1.4 base.

I’m waiting for my pieces at 3.5. When I was a teenager I played chess with an older gentleman who was from Germany,he had a Knubbel set and I never forgot those pieces so when I saw them on a thread here I looked them up and put an order in. Until then I didn’t even know their name.

US$ 99 minus 30% discount (at present) - "that much"?  Anyway, I'd advise against a Knubbel set for regular playing because of the size imbalance inherent in the set. Because of the teeny tiny pawns it's also diffiuclt to place harmoniously on a board.

Better get a 3-3.5" Staunton set for regular playing.

I only show a 25% discount. You're looking at the chessbazaar set right?

Also, why do you recommend a Staunton set for regular playing?

Question: I have a wood board from my 7yo daughter's grandpa that has 1.75" squares. I'm trying to buy a set of pieces. Thinking Staunton #5 pieces (FIDE #1). Would this be a match, or would the size look funny?

Chess Set Sizing - Pieces vs Board...

The primary sizing criteria for the set and board is that of square size vs King base diameter...
A good rule of thumb is...

King base diameter = 0.75 * square size

or equivalently....

Square size = 1.33 * King base diameter

Any variation from these ratios, or the size of individual pieces and pawns is a matter of personal preference...

Thus, for the given square size of 1.75 inches....

King base diameter = 1.75 * 0.75 = 1.3125 inches

I have a 3.25" French Lardy I got from thechessstore.com. However with the chess boom. They are currently out of stock. I find that it fits well on my 1 7/8" inch board that an 1/8 inch smaller square with fit just the same. I would recommend a King's base of 1.25"-1.375" for that square size. 1.4" is just a bit too big for 1.75" square but will work.

These will work and for the price. Not a bad deal. 3.5" size has the base size that would fit 1.75" square.
