Help with chess clock

I am getting ready to play in an in-person tournament, which I have not done in many years.  Here are the time controls in the tournament listing: 40/80, SD/30 +30.

I believe this means 40 moves in 80 minutes, then 30 minutes for the rest of the game with 30 seconds added per move.  Are the 30 seconds added before you make your move or after the move?  I have a DGT3000 clock.  How do you set this up on that clock?

Any help would be much appreciated.  I have tried to set this up on the clock and I am lost.

You can probably ask an organizer when you get there, I have the same clock and I am confused by this

I just spent some time with the DGT 3000 manual and, if I'm understanding it correctly, it appears that you must use Fischer time in order to make this work. Here's what I did:

  • turn on the clock (the Option number should be flashing)
  • using +/- buttons select Option 26 (the first manual option)
  • press the right arrow button (button on the far right)
  • using +/- buttons select FISCH
  • press the right arrow button
  • using +/- buttons select 1:20.00 (80 minutes) by changing one number at a time (press the right arrow button after each number)
  • after the final right arrow press you'll be taken to the BNS selection ... I left this at zero by pressing the right arrow 6 times (I *think* you don't get the 30 second bonus after each move of the first 40 moves?)
  • after the BNS selection you'll be at the MOVES selection ... as with the time selection, use the +/- button to choose 0, then 4, then 0 with right arrow presses after each
  • after the final right arrow button press you'll be at the type selection again ... use +/- to select FISCH (mine was already selected here)
  • press the right arrow button
  • you should now be at the TIMES selection ... here I set 0:30.00 (30 minutes) using the +/- buttons and the right arrow button
  • after the final right arrow button press you'll be at the bonus selection ... here I set 0.30 (30 seconds)
  • after the final right arrow button press you'll see MOVES ... set to 0 and press the right arrow button
  • after the final right arrow press you'll be at the TIMES type selection screen ... choose END with the +/- button and finish up by pressing the right arrow button
  • now choose sound OFF using +/- and press the right arrow button
  • finally choose freeze ON using +/- and press the right arrow button

That's it! (?) (!) (?) Hopefully someone more experienced can chime in.

Thank you so much. I set it up as you suggested and it appears to be correct. I really appreciate it.

Great, glad to help. Just be sure to get clarification on the bonus time during the first 40 moves...like I said, I *think* you don't get the 30 second bonus for those moves, but I could absolutely be wrong.

Excellent clock. There are YouTube videos of people setting the time control for different tournaments.  Search for setting DGT you'll find videos.

In this video you'll see the guy setting 2 time controls too. Follow and just use the time controls you need.

That's a great video, I'm glad I was suggesting the correct procedure. (phew) Now Jason just needs to get confirmation on whether this tournament's increment begins at move 1 or move 41 and hopefully he will be set from there.
