House of Staunton Customer Service

I ordered a Collector's set from HOS late last week, and forgot until today that I'd rather not have the stamped kingside rook and knight that they include. I talked with them today and asked if there was an option get the set without these stamps, and if necessary, how much it would cost to get these pieces as add-ons.

They looked and my order had not yet shipped (it was packed up waiting to be picked up by UPS). They pulled open the order and swapped the pieces for unstamped pieces without complaint.

In a world where customer service seems to be forgotten, I'm pretty happy with HOS right now! Just thought I'd share.

In the cracked pieces thread, I wrote about cracks in some of the ebony pieces of a set I bought as a gift.

House of Staunton is sending replacement pieces free of charge.

Which goes to show that you get what you pay for, and then some!

I placed an order there recently, via Amazon.  The item was out of stock, so they took the time to call me directly, rather than go through the Amazon means, which takes longer.  It allowed me to get it elsewhere because the issue was time sensitive, but I was so impressed by not only the call, but the politeness I was afforded that I will patronize them again.  They won me over.

I think their ability and willingness to fix things if an order has gone awry in some way is exceptional.

That, combined with their offerings that rise to high quality, makes them an indispensible resource for set and board afficionados.

Their quality control isn't excellent though. People receive defective pieces--I certainly have--but I think their business model is to make a fix, not go to the trouble of careful inspection before shipping.

We pay a premium for this I suppose with pretty high shipping and handling. In the end I was satisfied.

Good value for the money, and where else can I get a set like the Collector?

Answer: No where else. There are other nice designs out there but they are not like the Collector. Frank has covered the set design spectrum better than anyone else in this woodpusher's opinion.

Wrong place to post this.

If posting this is wrong, I don't want to be right! Wink

Compare that to the jackasses at Sports Academy who wouldn't even exchange a pair of shoes for a larger size that I had bought, but never wore because I accidentally got the wrong size a few days earlier cause I didn't have the receipt.

My experience with HOS has been second to done, which is even more amazing with companies cutting corners with customer support to save a nickel.

Beautiful products, timely communication, and exceptional product backing.

I play chess slightly better than I type.

Of course, "second to none".

I don't do either very good.
