Yo I got a new chessboard and I keep finding myself getting pawns to the end... so far I have just dealt with stacking a rook on a bishop but I don't really feel as if that will work forever, you know what I mean, I might get a pawn to the end without losing a rook or bishop... one day... anyway is there a way to get just 2 queens, one white and 1 black.

Where did you buy the set?  Perhaps you can contact the seller to buy 2 Queens.

If this is not possible, what kind of set is it?

If you post pictures of the set pieces, perhaps someone on this forum can help you.

Without knowing anything about the set, it is kind of impossible to help you.

nah its just a random multiple game board set from a shop called K-Mart. kinda like our equivalent of Walmart

You can buy individual pieces that looks like a small set so these might fit close enough.

will cost you 1$ for both + shipping.

Another thing you can do is email the Chess House people with the link in the email.

Either Raphael, Paul or Josh would handle this.  If they saw the picture, they might to be able to best match the pieces.

The traditional way is to flip a rook upside down for queen promotion when you have no extra queen

... or you could play better players. Then you won't be able to promote as easily.

Whenever there’s a large OTB tournament around, I usually buy some of their used weighted pieces, usually they only cost like $0.50(USD)
NobleElevator
But that only works if there is a large OTB tournament that has a bookshop.

I keep a pair of blue and white plastic queens for promotion purpose but seldom had the pleasure to use them. Why blue and white plastic? Because it's too stressful to try to match the shape and color of the pieces being played.

hmmm good point zagryan. I have 2 chess sets, one I keep at my grandparents' house. I could use those.

+1 Also, you could take it to a "skittles-type-match" if just a casual game and declare any placeholder to represent a Queen.

my rooks wont go upside down. this is because (on all 4 rooks) the squares that stick up (forgot proper name) only appear on two sides, not 4, so the rooks keep falling over.

also I keep finding myself in situations where I get a second queen but I have only lost pawns and maybe a bishop

Who are you playing chess with? Usually promotion isn't that common

I guess you would have to substitute pieces like I said (in skittles-game-fashion). Paperclip lying around? It is now counting as a Queen. Piece from a different board game? Could be a Queen. etc.

Actually (not for chess, but could) for some board games one needs extra pieces but doesn't have that many? (Like maybe a party with lots of players or something) I'll use a "cool" substitute for myself. Example: I have a little Pikachu figurine (about the size of a chess pawn where Pikachu is hopping over a tree stump) and so something like this makes a great "personalized" piece. In poker, lots of players use a "personalized" cap in the same way for their cards (although I just use a poker chip like many).

Summary: not hard to invent creative solutions to making do with what you have available. Modern problems require modern solutions
