two. one is set up on the table in my living room at home, the other is a small wooden folding set for traveling with or taking to play in the park / at the beach / whatever. i don't really see the need for any more.
How Many Chess Sets Do You Own?

4, 1 glass one that I've had forever, 1 vinyl that I use for clubs and public play, a cheap wooden one I use for travelling, and a nice wooden one that's semi replacing the glass set (the glass one is old and chipping).

that's quite a few!
I have 14 total chess pieces & sets. I know that that is way too many. The wood sets were purchased back in the 70s/80s when the Indian makers were putting out excellent sets for under 100 bucks. Its hard to find that quality now. My best loved set is the 3 1/2 king set & board by Weigle. I think they are still selling quality chess sets to this day. When any set you have stored in your closet for 20 years has not disclored or warped you know its quality.!!

I've got about a dozen sets; OK maybe 15. All right so I don't know how many I have, but I'm sure it's less than 20. 4 magnetic plastic sets, the small folder, the big folder, the Drueke, the 2 HOS plastic collectors, the 3" ebony, the older 3.5 HOS tournament ebonized, the 4.5 ebony, the 4" ebonized modern, the 4.4 HOS Sheffield in bud rosewood, the Baseball set I got off Ebay for $17.50 delivered which included a green and natural 2 1/4" wooden board. Do i have to include the crappy little "fits in your pocket" magnetic with disks instead of pieces? Oh and the analysis size plastic I was going to use at the library before I got the pair of 12" board magnetics-wait I counted those already. Ok 17. Whoops, make that 18; found another large folder under a stack of "must read" chess books.
And 5 months later another 4" ebony off Ebay. And yes, that is pathetic and yes I know I can't cut and paste worth spit...
I'm so glad you didn't ask about the boards....

I own a big set fro HOS, a small portable one from HOS, and a cheap wooden 12x12" board with drawers to store the chess peices (first one I bought when I started).
I never use them though really...I play online mostly :(

Lemme see. Four large ones. Two medium sized magnetic ones. Pocket sized - at least four. Weird ornamental glass/stone - three? So at least thirteen.

Does she at least play chess?

interesting! you people seem to have a lot! i thought four or five was a lot! i have two wooden, two tournament plastic sets of pieces (i lost a knight and a bishop playing a bughouse tournament during the world amateur east team tournament and had to buy pieces for the next round asap) so one set is missing some pieces, and one cheapy plastic magnetic set for travel

none :(
Didn't Magnus Carlsen claim in an interview that he didn't own any chess sets? Maybe you're a future super GM! Or maybe it was Nakamura? Or maybe the voices in my head are making things up again...

Yes, she does. Me losing almost every game against her in less than 25 moves was the reason to divorce her in the first place.

Mr.Ed , what would I give to have that in my living room, but the wife
My dear wife, that makes me .
Yeah, yeah I adore her in every way. Oh , happy me !
One set is enough, yes dear.
Yeah,yeah chess is just a hoby, ect,ect

Two, one plastic set with roll-up board for five-miute chess and one nice leather pocket set that can double as a large wallet. Of course the pocket set is now obsolete due the ability to play chess on smart phones.
One day I will probably put the pocket set on eBay and sell it. It is pretty much in new condition.
Here is Jeremy Silman's review. I purchased one of the original wallets, about eight years ago, which were leather. They no longer use leather but imitation leather.
