How to get the most out of ChessDB

I recently downloaded ChessDB and one of the large free PGN databases.
I do not find that I am getting a lot out of it, which makes me think that I do not understand its functionality very well. Ideally I would like to use it to explore games and help analyze my old games.
Can anyone offer advice on how best to get this out of ChessDB?
