I'm putting together the FEN's and PGN's for this book I'm up to diagram 42.  I downloaded the games from chessgames.com, but I'm also doing the diagrams that aren't there.  If this has already been done let me know so I'm not reinventing the wheel.

If you anyone want's a drop box link or want's me to email them what I have. let me know. I'll be constantly updating the PGN's until I finish reading the book.

Edit: Here is the drop box link so you don't have to go to page 2 of this forum https://dl.orangedox.com/QlL2ByQ0Rijdn

*UPDATE*  READ!!!   The full book is complete by miguel_marron and his 12 year old son. I can't say if the files he sent me are fully accurate since I haven't gone through every diagram.  I was able to provide Miguel with a road map on how to make the files.  Miguel thank you for your help brother.

i would love to have the pgn when ur done sir

MrStryker

It might take a while I just hit Diagram 50. I was hoping someone had already done this but I couldn't find anything. I know some pgn's for the games are posted but I want everthing in one file to make it easy. It was taking me too long to set up the chess board.

Matt-el

Ditto. Please share any pgn's you make, it's a good book - i bought 3 from the same author but going from the book to the board constantly is frustrating and distracts from the lesson. Keep up the good work!

A complete set of pgn's for Silman's "How to Reassess Your Chess" would certainly be a boon to the chess community at large.

You might want to consider uploading the pgn's to the chessgames.com collections section.....then create a link to it and post the link on chess.com....

Thank you!

MrStryker

The only problem is I won't be able to upload individual diagrams to that website.  I'll make a zip file when all the PGN's are complete to make the dowload faster.

ap_resurrection

that would be really helpful

MrStryker

If anyone else wants to help with the workload I'm sure we could knock out the whole book in a few days.  I'm only making them as I read through and my work week just started so I might be slow on adding more.  I'm using chess base reader to create them.

You could put all the pgn's in one text file.  Create a separate paragraph for each pgn within the file.  Also indicate the associated book page number for each pgn as its identifier.

MrStryker

RussBell can you take care of that for us?  The drop box link is posted with all of the diagrams that I have so far.

No I don't want to get involved in the process of creating the product.  I only offer what I consider to be useful suggestions to improve the product.  Thank you for your efforts.

MrStryker

I'm gonna have to pass on doing it than sorry. If someone else wants to take on the challenge of posting to chessgames please do so.  I'll continue to update the diagrams in the drop box link. When I have all diagrams complete I will make into one zip file.

If you create one zipped text file containing all of the pgn's, such that I don't have to do anything with it other than upload it to chessgames.com collections, I would do that.  I just don't want to be involved in the process of creating the pgn's or the file containing them.  But I will do it only once the final file has been created.

Also you keep mentioning diagrams.  Pgn files are text files, and don't contain diagrams.  So I don't know what you are referring to by that.

MrStryker

RussBell I'll let you know when it's done.  In the book the pgn's are referred to as diagrams.

RussBell

Ok let me know when it is all done.  One text file containing all the pgn's.  A simply formatted (pgn) text file such that each pgn can be identified as to which page in the book it is associated with.  If it looks good, I will then upload it to chessgames.com collections and provide a title and a link to it so that chess.com subscribers (i.e., anyone with a chessgames.com account) can access/locate it.  A chessgames.com login ID is necessary to access the resources of the site.  The site does require a fee to establish an account.

RussBell

Just to be clear. PGN format is used to delineate a sequence of moves. However the "diagrams" you refer to in the book indicate a static (fixed) position or arrangement of the pieces on the chess board.  The means by which a static position is specified (as opposed to a sequence of moves) is by employing FEN notation within a PGN file.

MrStryker

Got it thanks. So I'm doing both FEN's and PGN's that way a if someone wanted to get the book they wouldn't have to set up a chess board.

RussBell

Yes.  Typically the FEN (use to specify a static position of the pieces - or "diagram", if you like) is placed at an appropriate location inside the PGN file.  Of course, the inclusion of the FEN is optional.
