That is just fantastic!
I made a glass chessboard

Wow! Can I ask what the cost of the materials was, approx?
And I like the Kleenex waiting ready for the guy who loses!

Cost me roughly $100. I think it's mostly labor. As an aside, if you're thinking of doing this, I think brown tinted glass might be better.

Impressive! How about you put some guidelines on a blog so people would get inspired and try to build their own? I know someone who's very interested!

Nice work. I am planning to do that as well. For mine, I plan to etch my glass end table if possible. If that is too expensive, I will go with frosted cut vinyl to simulate etched glass.

I'm actually trying to gauge interest in the board to see if I should start making these en masse. The one in the picture is just a prototype. As far as anyone making their own, there isn't much to it. Find someone with Adobe skills (this is the hardest part which I did not do). Find a glass maker. Negotiate price.

Super nice! Is the glass laser etched? Beautiful work!
I wish! You'd only see that on an episode of Pimp My Chessboard. I just wanted 60mm squares at a regular human price.

Oh, is it a some sort of sheet attached to the back of the glass? Still looks very nice!
Yeah. Laser etching would be really elegant, but cost prohibitive. Also, no color options for squares. The board and notations are basically just stickers on the underside of the glass. The pieces look like they are floating, so that's a nice effect.
I have a couple more pictures. This is a decent solution for people who need 60 or 65mm squares. Those elaborate chessboards selling for $300 look like they belong in the Victorian era and I don't wear pantaloons.
If I had thought of this earlier, I would have gotten one of those luxury 4.5" king sets and saved a ton on the board.
I bought a 4" king set and needed a chessboard. The recommended size is 60mm squares. Good luck finding that for a decent price! So, I made my own board out of glass.
Positive and negative comments welcome.
