Ideal Chess Pieces Total Weight?

I am in the market to buy new chess pieces with my aim being to acquire a quality Staunton set, ideally based on a 3.75 king. This is likely to be a one-time purchase so I’m keen to get the benefit of your advice. What do you consider to be the ideal total weight range for pieces based on kings :

3.5
3.75 and
4 inches.

For a 3.75 inch king, I have it in mind that the ideal weight for a 32 piece set is in the range of 1.2kg - 1.6kg. Would it matter if it was out with that range, either lighter or heavier? I know @loubalch has been incredibly helpful on other threads with regards to set dimensions and it would be great if he had views on weight as well.

I’m no expert and would really welcome your views.

heavier the better as long as its not unliftable

heavier pieces are "weighted" and better because a wind cant just sweep them away or something like that

you can just search for a regular weighted set uscf standard or fide standard

this way you would get a good standard set

theres no real comparing with height and etc

The general rules seem to be:
- Heavier pieces tend to be more prone to cracking
- For blitz, lighter pieces with wider bases might be preferable to very heavy pieces
- Heavier sets are obviously harder to transport conveniently
- Otherwise, heavier is generally better

What would be the lightest weight you’d be comfortable with?

Again, it really depends both on the style of the set as well as what you plan to use it for.

For example, I have both the Cavalier Alabaster set and the Drueke Players Choice.  Both are plastic, weighted, but fairly light and of similar weight.  However, the Cavalier set feels too light and a bit top heavy, while the DPC set feels balanced and comfortable to use.

The new version of the Ultimate Chess pieces would be a good bet if you are looking for heavy plastic. Much info available in other threads here.

Heavier.

I like lighter for studying and heavier for playing.
