IPADS for Chess.com

Maybe this has been covered already, but do IPADS work well for use on Chess.com?  I am thinking of buying an IPAD.

Even my samsung galaxy is perfectly useable (when it's not crashing)

On the app or the web?

I don;t use the app much but the web works for the most part.

My only complaint is that the "Home" button does not work on the webpages. I have tried Chrome and Safari. Always have to type the address back in to get to my home page.

The android app crashes constantly on my phone. I've tried reinstalling it. Nothing else crashes on my phone.

iPads are fine. Get one, you wont regret it.

I use my PC at home and ipad pro when i'm out and about. when on the ipad, i use the app mostly and only use the the web browser when using the tactics trainer in motif mode as that is not available yet in the app.

There are some great great apps out there for Ipad, namely the Chessking apps, which you can download all the CT-Art tactical problems and most of the other chessok courses. The chessking interface is much more user friendly than the PC peshka equivalent, and can be used offline.

There are some good engines to to play against if you are caught without internet....i use shredder with adapts it's strength and gives a good game

It sounds like an IPAD and I will get along just fine.  One of my main concerns is that if I am playing a rated game on chess.com using wi-fi  is that the IPAD will not disconnect.  I have an Android tablet and I have had a couple of disconnects (losing rating points naturally) while using wi-fi.  That is really frustrating!

My iPads (I have 4 of them) are pretty rock solid on WiFi and/or LTE (all of them have that also).

I have three Android tablet and 1 Win8 tablet and 2 of the Android tablets are pretty solid WiFi but the other one and the Win8 are flaky with it.

I think if you are worried about disconnects the iPad is the best bet (not knowing anything about your network setup or equipment.)

Wow, do you need 4 iPads?

Bestestcat

No. You need four butchekes

However, not many have that tongue.png

NEED?

No, don't need but they produce new iPads every year. I am doing my part to make Apple the richest corporation in the universe.

But seriously, I have 1 for work, 1 for personal, 1 older one and my wife has 1.

Bestestcat

it is spelled wrong so i dont get banned

Thanks for the Ipad advice.  It sounds like a winner.

its nice if you are not home - but! you will probably play much worse than on a computer if you sit on a sofa with a pad.

iPads work ok for chess.com, however you can't play or view tournaments in the app. It's also tough to view full profiles and any clubs you belong to. For any of that you'd still have to use l browser version.

There are a lot missing features in the chess.com app vs the web UI, I like the iOS/Android app for live chess on any device, not so much for daily since I can neither save nor check previous moves on the analysis board, I don't know if that changed lately. Based on the missing features I would plan to get a 2in1 or maybe a hybrid tablet/laptop with windows 10 where I don't miss all the standard features on the web, plus I can install other software for analysis, storing game databases, etc. For extreme portability I can do just fine with my galaxy phone, I see no gain in the iOS/Android app in just a few more inches.

I bought an Ipad and it works fine on chess.com.
