Label is in excellent condition like you said and the box does have a key. 😂😂😂 I’ll pass on the £35 😂😂😂

Any idea on value of these? Estimates? I’ve been offered £600 for the wooden one

Just looking at the condition of the pieces and box and label my guess is way north of that price but I am not an expert in antique Jaques sets.  I would think you can get $1500 for it in a flash or even more. This is on the wooden set. Ivory in perfect condition there are experts in this field. Maybe email Jon Cruniller. Like his page says he is not a dealer only a collector, he would be glad to answer any of your questions on antique chess sets. He is considered tops in this field. He is the expert for BOTH sets

The wooden one looks to be in excellent condition. If you take many photos, including the undersides to show that the baize is likely to be original and stick it on eBay you will get a good price. If you look closely at each piece is there any evidence of restoration? If it's in as good a condition as it appears then you should get £600 or more. But it's post 1895 so won't be super valuable.

Post here to let us know if you put it on eBay - it's about time I bought another chess set, I'm starting to get withdrawal symptoms.

When I used to work in a chess shop (quite a number of years ago) that’s the set (the non-Ivory one)that we sold for £995 (new), so something around the £600 mark or just over wouldn’t seem unreasonable.

It is on eBay and the baize is original and no restoration has taken place,  completely original 😎

Would be good if you can show the knights from a side profile & also the Jaques stamp on the kings !
