Has anybody read The amatures Mind: Turning Chess Misconseptions into Chess Mastery By Jeremy silman?

If so what do you think, a few reviews say its a great book and 1 or 2 ive read say it doesnt work well with tactics.

Well, tactics are a very important aspect of the game, no doubt.  But the great thing about Silman is he conceptualizes strategy in a way players like you and me can readily understand.  After digging into a new book, sometimes immediately after your results will suffer because you haven't learned how to incorporate the new knowledge into your play.  One solution is to play often (and serious games) while taking your time with a new book.

In any case, I woudln't excpect that book to work well with tactics... they're different areas.  However for players who are a lacking a good strategic foundation this book can't help but to improve their play.

I understand the book is completely strategy, but a few readers felt that by reading this book there tactical abilty suffered as the way the book instructs you to think meant that they were overlooking some tactics I just wanted to know if anyone else had found this or not?

On the short term you are right. The newlearned knowledge needs to be encorporated into your play. And in the new balance you may mis a tactic or two for some time. But your tactical ability doesnt suffer from it in the long term (you dont all of a sudden forget patterns). It just takes some time to look for both (and combine tactics and strategy) in a position, maybe a month or a few depending on how often you play.
