Jeremy Silman chess course on DVD or download..

The price of the DVD course has just been reduced to $39.95 USD (plus shipping); the download price is $34.95 USD.  The advertisement I received in the mail said the sale ends on 2/11/2016.

Jeremy Silman is a well-known and generally well-regarded chess teacher, and author of some very popular chess books including "The Amateur's Mind", "How to Reassess Your Chess" and "Silman's Complete Endgame Course".  Silman also provides instructional content, articles, Chess Mentor, etc., for chess.com.

Edit: Apparently the original links I had posted for the on-sale chess course did not work when trying to locate the sale price for the chess course.  However either of the following links should now get you to the correct webpage for the sale (search on 'chess'):

http://www.thegreatcourses.com/search/?q=chess

www.trygreatcourses.com

Be sure to select the course listed as on sale for $34.95 (unless, of course, you prefer to pay more!)

Thanks for the heads up Russ. Was there a coupon code? It is still showing as $234.95 when I place it in the cart.

At $34 I will grab it in a heartbeat.

(Wonder why I didn't get the advert.)

RussBell

Hmmm....strange...

I didn't use any coupon code.  I just ordered it (the DVD) several hours ago and the price in the cart was $39.95 plus shipping....

You might want to give them a call or send them an email.

I just visited their website and I see that the price is now shown as $235 USD for download and $270 for DVD.  This is strange, as I just purchased it online from their website a couple of hours ago for $39.95 plus shipping.  I did not use any coupon. I would definitely contact them about this.

I received the printed advertisement describing all their course offerings in the mail today.  The price given in the printed advertisement says $39.95 (page 26).  Also the print advert is like a magazine (36 pages) with dozens of courses listed.  On the front cover it says "Special Sale Issue for New Customers 80% Off - Sale Ends February 11".  So not sure who they mailed it out to and who they didn't.

Their phone is 800-832-2412.  TryGreatCourses.com

If you can't get any satisfaction from the company producing the course, you can try contacting Jeremy Silman directly and ask if he can help.  That is, why the apparent disparity in the advertised prices for his course?

And the TryGreatCourses.com is it. It is listed there for 34.95 download.

Many thanks!

RussBell

Very good!  I am hopeful and expect that for $40 (plus shipping) the course should be a good value.  We'll see.

RussBell

For others reading this post.  The download price is slighly less than the DVD price.  $35 vs $40 USD + shipping.  But this price is advertised to end on Feb.11.

I seems quite interesting, but I do not if it will worth a while, taking into account that with the Diamond subscription we have access to the Chess.com study plans, I have done the first one, begginers (up to 1400 and it is really good) now I am considering to start the Intemediate one. I think that contents should be quite similar, I must say that it is quite good, long and complete.

In any case is a bargain price , and the same as other people see 23 chapters of Games of Thrones or Breaking Bad, I am sure that we would enjoy this videos of the same duration ;-))

Bronco

Hmmm. I'm not seeing the sale price on the link or in the cart....

Bummer

Just finished checking the links I posted above for the chess course.  It appears the site is playing games with the posted prices for the chess course.  That is, the prices posted in the links keep getting revised (randomly it seems) by the site.

I suggest checking all the links posted in this thread to see which link gives the best posted sale price.  Better still, just call them on the phone and tell them that you had seen the DVD/download versions listed for a sale price of $39.95 USD/$34.95 USD and that the sale had been advertised to end on Feb 11, and ask them to honor those sale prices.

Does anyone know what software Silman is using in the course

How to Play Chess: Lessons from an International Master?

MrGalang

This course is free to watch if you have a kanopy account.

Jerrybn

I already own the course. I want to know what software Silman is using during the course for his lessons.

JugglinDan

I don't know what the software is, but I just bought the course. I will try to work it out.

KineticPawn

Jerrybn why if you post a screen shot of him using the program we would be able to better help you.

JugglinDan

Do you mean the software used for the 3D board animations? It looks like animation software rather than chess software to me, but I really have no idea.

JugglinDan

Or do you mean the 2D boards? To me, this one looks suspiciously like chess.com!
